Can someone here tell me how much it costs to get a business license for hiring myself out as a gardener in Edmonton? It is seasonal. This is for the summer of 2012.
Please reply asap. Thanks so much.
I also woukd like to know how much insurance I need basic? I deal with shrubs, flowers, weeds etc.
Your best bet is to contact the city of Edmonton and see if you need maybe a landscapeing license (every city is different). They will also say if you need insurance. If it's not required, then it's up to you.
I can't see you needing that much coverage for gardening.
In most areas all you need to do is register your business with the city or town. Call the registry office
I don't think you need a license but if your business will generate more than $30,000 per year you will need a HST #

My best advice is to contact your city offices and ask them. They will be able to tell you exactly what you need in all areas including what kind of insurance you will need.
It sounds to me like they will be grouping you in with landscapers (great trade) and yes it is seasonal but then it might open the option for you to eventually work your way into snow removal or something to get you through the winters in the future. It is always nice to have a little room for expansion.
Good luck with your business ventures.
