Hi all,
How much would it cost to change from carpeted stairs to hardwood?
The railing/balusters/pickets have to be stained or replaced as well. How much would it be?
Thanks!
How many treads/risers? Are the steps open on one side or both? How many posts? Any landings? Any winders?
You will never get a proper estimate sight unseen.
Hi,
It depends on how many steps and whether all the steps in good condition and if the steps open on one side or both.
Mike,
Without any details, the price range is more like $500 to $150,000. Just my .02

Hi there,
With the regular material noting too fancy it would cost around $2000-$4000 with labor, anything more then that, they're charging you too much. But of course it all depends on the type of material you want to use as well.
Hope this helps.
Sincerely
Enes
Hi,
I had 14 stars covered in carpet with exterior grade plywood underneath. It was deeply marked.
I redid the entire staircase sanding, building up and staining and applying 3 protective gloss coats on the treads, stripping, staining and coating the banisters, then stripping and painting the spindles white, painting the risers. Turned out fabulous.
Aside from time, it was under $500. The stripping was really not needed on the spindles but I wanted to do it.
I apologize for the way the pictures are loaded and cannot change their orientation. An alternative for you.
