I have a basement that I'm working on finishing myself however I always planned on getting the taping/mudding/sanding done by hiring someone due to the fact that step is very visible once completed and is like an artform from what I have heard. I did plan on installing the drywall myself but it is very heavy and awkward to move myself.
The portion I want drywalled, taped, mudding and sanded, is about 600 sq feet, including 2 closests. Area is broken into 2 rooms. Also the same area needs the ceiling done with drywall.
My question is...
What is the estimate cost for the taping/mudding/sanding portion and what would be the estimate cost adding on bringing in the DW and install the drywall?
The to tape and install $2.25 per square foot and to get it carried in to your basement between $2.00 and $3.00 per sheet
Hello. if you can find out how many sheets or sqft of drywall you will need it will help find out the cost. Material pricing is based off Home Depot in Toronto,ON.
MATERIAL for drywall and finishing the drywall ready for prime is around $0.50sqft of drywall. If you have a shower or bathtub to drywall, add Denshield drywall which is around a $1.28sqft.
Im not sure if the 600sqft you gave us is floor area or drywall sqft, but for the sake of the example, I will say it's drywall sqft.
600sqft of drywall x $0.50sqft= $300.00+$123.00(denshield my estimate for one bathtub)=$423.00 TOTAL COST OF MATERIAL estimated but we will round that to $450.00
Now for labour. Since it's a small job, most trades will just charge a flat fee and not charge per sqft. My guess would be
Drywall installer $500.00 to $1000.00
Drywall finisher $1000.00 to $1500.00
best case $1950.00
worst case $2950.00
or it could be anywhere in between.
Don't forget you have to either pay for delivery which has an additional cost or pick it up yourself. Also, either you carry it down or you pay someone to carry the material inside. Also, you have to keep in mind the cost of disposing the material waste.
Now, if you install drywall and finish it yourself, you will save on the labour costs:). But keep in mind you may need a helper to install the drywall and you will need to buy tools and drills if you don't have them already which will increase your cost.
I hope this helps!!!!!
