What is the cost of building a deck off my cottage, second storey, around 16x14?
Deck is an addition and would need the roof extended out over it. The roof runs same direction.
Only looking for estimates at this time.
Bob,
As I am in Alberta I can only provide a ballpark estimate. Note: an estimate is just that, not a quote. There are many factors to consider. the size of deck is 224 sq. ft. and you mentioned it is for a second story. Labour only would start at $3500. and the material would depend on what you would like. Pressure treated lumber is best in the low cost area (don't use non-treated as it will not stand up to the elements of the outdoors over time. Second choice may be cedar, stands up well and looks great if treated as manufacturers recommend, Third is composite wood. Pricy but will last almost forever. Also, most contractors charge more for the installation because there are different methods for installing and it is time consuming. Next, the ground, ... is it level or on a slope? Is it clay, sand, rock? How easy is access to the location (for delivery of the material). What needs to be done to the siding where the new deck is to be attached to th e cottage?
You can see why there is much to consider when adding a deck. It is much more than just an idea, it has to do with safety, appearance, longevity, and overall value. The best thing to do is to ask some local contractors to see the property and estimate based on what they see. The material and design are your choice.
Good luck and enjoy the project.
Hi Bob,
I have been in the deck business for over 20 years and the project you have listed sounds like a base price of $7000-10000. Now that's just pressure treated with a dressed up style. Like the other fella that posted before me it is all dependent on how much your willing to put into the project for materials and extras.
All the best.
I did job like this before for $ 9 k all inclusive.
