We would like to have a 8 x 12 shed in the backyard to house lawnmower, bikes, and other storage. I understand that this would not require a permit. It would also help to provide some privacy as backyard is small and close to neighbours directly behind us.
Looking for an affordable solution whether it is custom built or we buy from Home Depot and then hire someone to build for us.
1. What would the cost be?
2. What type of trade would do this work?
3. I assume that we also need to do something special to prepare the ground first like concrete or whatever? Please let me know what we need for that.
Would like affordable and simple solution, and to understand the steps involved to make that happen.
Thank you for your time.
10x10 is typically max size in canada before a permit..a carpenter typically will build a shed and most will be able to do the other work involved as well, roofing, siding etc. If not hire a general contractor. Ground should be landscaped flat. As there will typically be no light etc under it it is usually not required to put gravel or weed cloth down as nothing will grow anyway. The floor can be placed directly on 4x4 /4x6 or 6x6 treated lumber skids ( good for future moving/removal or on a pad (cost ov 4" thick pad will be added then)...pre fab packages from hardware's can be $3-4,000 and the labor will be from $2,000 and up...I charge a min of $2500-$3,000 for a prefab complete 8x12 and it will take a week. A total custom built from scratch by hand like in pic I did, would be from $10,000 all inclusive
Thanks John.
