Roughly what would it cost to put new vinyl siding on my 1200 sq foot, 1962 bungalow in St. Albert?

Our home has a very large, cinder block garage. Is it even possible to apply vinyl siding to a cinder block building?

Our cost is approximately $1.25/sq foot plus materials. We are located in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I see you're in Alberta.

Hey,

It's Denis here from D.K.C.Construction Roofing & Siding. Your average cost of vinyl siding is 3$-7$ per sq foot.

And yes you can install vinyl siding on cinder block. You just have to build strips of 1x6 or 1x8.

Erin,

The cost of siding your house varies depending on a few factors. Number of doors and windows, height, and any odd angles. Having said that, the average cost is about $3,000 plus material. The material varies in price from about $1.75 sq. ft. to $3.75 sq. ft. depending on brand and quality.

I'd suggest you actually compare siding brands like Kaykan, Royal and Gentec. These three offer different features, colours and quality. Quality means a few things like the rv rating (that holds the colour for a long length of time without fading), the material mak-up so that it can stand more abuse (hail, wind, frost etc.) withour cracking. And last, the colour choices. This is a somewhat major expense and you should get whatever you really want.

As to the garage, yes it can be covered. The siding requires wood strips to be fastened to the concrete and then the siding goes on. Some minor adjustments have to be made to accomodate the new thickness of the walls in areas aroundm the windows and doors.

The best thing to do (suggestion) is to think of the colour and style and go from there. Think of your budget and look at how everything fits together. The garage may be a second "Plan B" or could be delayed, if need be. The garage is a little more costly than the house with the added work of the strapping.

I hope this helps.

Hi Erin,

How much insulation is in your house walls? You may want to consider adding some foam insulation to the exterior before you add the siding. Or just use insulated siding. It's a small R-value, but it can make a difference if you have insufficient insulation in your framed walls.
