Any idea on a cost comparison or estimate for approx. 1000 square feet of concrete drive vs. ashphault?

Depends on the company to be honest. There is no real set price. Most companies have a starting point. That starting point and the condition of the job will justify whether it goes up or down.
If we are dealing with tear out, grade, compaction and Concrete broom finish you would be around 11-14$ a ft2. Now the easier the cheaper and the more the ft2 increases it gets cheaper.
Same thing for asphalt, 3.50$-6.50$ a ft2
