I have to make an opening in an existing wall. How much will it cost me if I do it myself and if a contractor does it?

it will probably cost you 3 to 4 times as much trying to do something you don't know how and have a contractor fixing your mistakes after. Perhaps some engineering is needed, building permit ???

That would depend on the following
1) The type of wall?
2) Is there any electrical or plumbing in the wall you intend to cut through?
3) Is the wall load bearing?
4) Is it an exterior or interior door?
