I would like to know what is the going rate to paint per sq ft and what is the going rate per linear ft for baseboard/doors/trim in Ontario?
Thanks
Hi Denis,
I charge $.60 a square foot (wall sq/ft not floor) to paint and cut in walls and trim 2 coats using a latex paint. This includes Material & labour and if the walls need prep, which in most cases they do ie. patching, scraping, puttying, cleaning etc. I charge $.25 sq/ft. The finished product of anything else comes back to the preparation.
For the trim, It depends on the sizes of the trim, but lets say standard 4" base, 3" casing, I would charge base price of $50 for trim paint and labour of $.75 a linear foot.
Now remember, it all depends on the level of finish you are looking for, some guys will do they entire thing for $.50 a square foot, but always remember you get what you pay for.
Reputable contractors have Insurance, WSIB, employees etc that have to be paid.
I hope this helps.
I think a good price would be 30 a square a foot, materials included.
I believe Alex is right on the money. I assume we would be using a good quality paint and any less than what Alex stated would mean that you are not getting quality products and services.
Typically to paint a room lets say 13x18 would be around 400-450 depends on the condition of the room and if we are painting ceilings or not. This price reflects very closely to Alex's square foot and linear foot numbers.
If we are looking at .30 per sq' all in, the price would be 148.80 to complete this size of a room. It would be close to impossible to do this even for the home owner to do it themselves so just keep that in mind.
If you want to figure out a price by the floor sq.footage rather than the wall area, approximately 2 dollars a sq.ft will give you a ball park.
