I received a quote for $1000 to paint three rooms. Is this too much? The room dimensions are:

16.40 x 13.78

12.30 x 9.51

12.30 x 8.04

Question is, are YOU happy to pay that for the work that is involved?

A gallon of paint is $50-100, easily 3-4 cans, brushes, rollers, tape, drop cloths, repairs, sanding, primer, touch up, clean up, etc. So 2 people, 2-3 days, and you can work out the hourly rate. Price sounds in line.

Ask for their history and years of experience. Check their company on homestars as well.

The $1000 does not include the cost of paint, now is it too much?

Hi Pina!

There are good painters and bad painters. Some guys will go in and try to cover in one coat which hardly ever works. So it is a good policy to always cover in two coats.

Keep in mind if there is alot of trim work doors etc. These take time to paint with two coats. If you are changing colors as well can be an issue. Not knowing what you know pretty hard to comment on it being too much.

Why are they not supplying the paint? Get some more quotes one is not enough. Then you have something to compare with. Three quotes is usually the norm these days that gives you a real good base to go by.

Second listen to what they are saying ask for references things like that. Use your gut instincts if you don't feel good about them then move on. Hope this helps.

Hi Pina, at the last home show I went to, there was a contractor advertising a show special of $195.00 per room up to 12 X 12, including the paint. Sounds not bad. I had to ask what that included. Turns out it is single coat, walls only, no major colour change, and no patching. In other words get in, get it done, get out. This may actually be a good deal if you are in a new home (less than 2 years?) with the "builders beige" still on the walls.

If you actually need patching, ceilings, trims, and walls done then $1000.00 seems pretty reasonable.

Good Luck with it!

Painting is done on a sq. ft. basis............$1.50=$2.00 per. sq. ft. of area to be painted.

EXAMPLE....10X10 wall=100 sq. ft......cost to paint $150.00-$200.00 paint included up to $50.00 per. gal.

Baseboards are $1.50 per. lin. ft. to paint, doors are $50.00 per. door, closets are $150.00 and up

window casings are $$2.00 per. lin. ft. paint included.

This would also include minor patching of walls.

HI Pina,

I think all of the answers you have received here are a good indication that there are too many variables to answer your question with a simple yes or no.

You haven't indicated whether this included painting the trim or doors, ceilings or if there are any high ceilings in the rooms. In addition, we have no idea of the condition of the walls, the colours in the rooms and what your looking for regarding price vs. quality.

I can tell you this, our standard cost to paint a simple room, not including trim, using an good quality paint runs around $400 a room plus tax.

You want to make sure the estimates you get for painting are detailed, include the full scope of work as well paint specifications.

Good luck wiht your painting and definitely let me know if you have any questions.

Best Regards,
