I want to extend my living room to a 15 by 30 slab which already exists. I assume this would include removing the existing wall, siding, adding a couple of windows and patio door, plus the roof. Looking for an approximate cost.
I want to extend my kitchen to include a dining room onto an existing slab which is approximately 15 by 20. Looking for an approximate cost.
Depending whether or not that the slab was designed to build on. If this is an existing patio slab, then it probably was not designed to take a load. You should also really consider pulling a permit for this work, for lots of reasons.
The typical cost per square foot to build a house in Vancouver, BC runs between $200 and $350+ dollars per square foot. Some prices are even as high as $500 or more per square foot. The larger the house, the more expensive the build. Higher end finishes will also cost more. Home building prices in Vancouver vary wildly.

Hello Ruthie,
Requesting pricing on a project without building plans, specifications, and inspection of the existing conditions is going to yield inconsistent results. You will have better luck estimating the cost of a car per pound.
I recommend researching reputable contractors in your area and have them review your project. Echoing the advice of Glenn, I also highly recommend getting a permit for any alterations to your home.
Thank you Glenn and Les for your valuable advice.

I am from Toronto but general rule is exactly as told by 2 other friends # 1 Is to prepare a layout by Professional Architect based on what you want, see it as a finished space. Consider HVAC,Tying of existing structure with new structure, all need to be addressed. Electrical, plumbing, etc. Once all of that is done then comes the Pricing and for that consider all finishing items so one cost will be Shell cost and other would be finishing cost inside and outside.
Keep minimum of 10 to 15 % contingency cost for hidden surprises.
Post your plan once that is ready more help would be possible by other local experts.
Good luck and if more thoughts are given on paper before breaking ground would be smooth and enjoyable process.
Thank you Nitin from Toronto. I am taking in all of the valuable information from all of you. Going to definitely lay it all out then seek a reliable contractor.
Measure twice cut once the same applies to planning a Reno big or small.
That said obtain all necessary info and all pertinent info so that both home owner and contractor understand the scope of work
Only then you will be able to get a price
Your first step is to take your property survey to your local zoning-building department at city hall. They can tell you what the regulations are for your area of town or city.
Cost to build a home addition vary from $250 per square foot on the cheapest end to $500 / sq. ft. or even more for custom top notch work. Accurate estimated can be provided only after analyzing architectural drawings with all technical details, calculating number of man-hours for completing the project and determining the total expenses for materials, fixtures and finishing products.
Committee of Adjustment will cost $ 1,500 if you are closer than 6 ft. to the property side line and apply for a variance.
