Would like to look at adding onto a 1000 sq ft bi-level, adding on another 900 or so sq ft. What are the costs involved and how long would construction take? Is there additional costs for permits and such?
This is currently, hypothetical, we are considering a purchase, but the house is not quite large enough for what we need and we want to know costs before getting in based on the fact that we have to buy the initial property to begin with.
Thanks!
Hello,
As I am sure you are aware or can appreciate that the costs and time lines do depend on a number of factors, such as:
Site access
Style and design of construction
Personal taste and selections
Location (Counties of Foot Hills VS Rocky View or City of Calgary)
In general you can budget 6-8 months and $150-$225 per square foot for the new construction. You should also consider that when a person constructs an addition you would be left with a new portion and an "older" portion of the home and would very likely want to do some updating of the existing section, this is likely to add cost and disruption if living in the home but most of the time can be managed with in the original time frame.
I hope this helps.
Thank you,
Kevin Albert
