Asphalt paving (using existing base) approx. $3.00/ square feet.

Asphalt paving (with installation of new base) approx. $5.00 / square feet.

Ideally three quotes should be obtained. Also additional costs may be associated and I believe there are two grades of asphalt. 1. Road grade 2. General run of the mill grade.

Would the sq ft pricing normally include new flashing against the house and a concrete border or are these extra and how would i estimate them. My drive is about 20x60 and there is existing flashing where the drive touches the house.

Also I am concerned with sinking and drainage. What would I need to include in an estimate with a paving contractor?

I am just trying to get a list of things I should make sure the contractor includes.

Finally will the contractors do this without a deposit. I read some problems where the contractor took the deposit but did not get around to doing the job till the fall when he was not busy. How do I protect myself?

Costs for the additional work is a good question, that is something you will have to discuss with your paver if they can do it or you may have to retain an independent contractor for that work. The approx. costs I quoted are for paving only.

As to paying a deposit, you could post date the cheques, and stipulate in the contract future payments.

Ascertain from contractor about deposit, and payment. Get a contract, and ask for references, and check the contractor by checking with Better Business Bureau, and Google the company name and the owner name, its amazing what may show up.

You should obtain three quotes.

Between $3 to $6 per sqf. Depend of size and ground floor situation.
