We have discovered there is vermiculite containing asbestos in our home, can anyone let us know what it should be expected to cost?
We have received a quote of 6 dollars a square foot, does this sound reasonable and how do you confirm that the contractor is reputable and we won't have problems later.
Is there a place where you can confirm thier registration. (we are in Ontario)
Is this for the removal and installation of new insulation?
In the attic only or also in the walls?
I would solicit 3 quotes. Make sure they all quote the same work so you can compare aples with apples.
As far as who to use, call an organization that does the testing. You must have used a firm to analyze samples from your home. Ask them for the names of a few companies.
Good luck.

There are companies that remove the existing insulation including vermiculite through the roof vent from outside and no one comes into contact of the insulation, they will also seal all the gaps and stop air leakages. They will also put in sufficent amount of R value to achieve comfort level in your house. A typical bunglow would cost in neighbourhood of $ 1650 in Toronto. I dont know about your area but should not be higher then that.
Before government was giving grant for that, currently i dont know what is the status.
Hope this helps.
