There are so many variables that would affect the cost of an addition. Typically the type of room can make a difference. The most affordable room addition will likely be a basic room like a bedroom. Make sure you get 3 quotes, I suspect you might be looking at quotes in the $150-200 per sq ft range, but it could be lower if the complexities of the addition is minimal.
Please make everything a consideration and if your serious, think about writing out a detailed set of goals and of course, make a plan to achieve those goals. This will help you understand the steps taken and help you to work with your contractor and architect to get the designs and plans ready to go. Take your time, most renovations should take longer to plan than it does to finish the job.
