I've been painting for quite awhile but I've never been my own boss. So I've never had to do quotes. Now I'm thinking of going into business for myself but not sure how to do the quotes. I was told to charge by square foot instead of by room.

What is the going rate in Alberta for painting by square foot? Or should I charge by room?

Hello,

In BC this is what we usually charge (All is measure by floor sqft.)

$1/sqft for walls

$1.75/sqft for walls and ceilings

$2.50-$3.00 for walls, trim and ceilings.

This is for you standard home. Higher end homes could be .25-1.00sqft more depending on how high the ceilings are and the amount of cutting to do.

New construction between $3-$4/sqft

(.50/sqft for priming)

Hope this helps,

Kam
