What would be the average cost of replacing two exterior doors on house. One door appears to just remove exisiting door and frame and install new door and frame, which we have purchased already.

The second door opening needs to be made smaller in order to install the new 32 door and frame, which we have purchased already.

Typically exterior doors run around $1,500 in labor to replace.

Hey Carol,

I typically charge $550 per exterior door installation. Thats just for a simple removal of the old door and installation of a new single door (not sliding, or French, double etc) just basic vinyl or wood frame with steel door. Thats with aluminum capping on outside and existing trim re installed in the inside or new builder grade colonial casing installed. I charge more for special order doors or custom wood doors, nice glass panel doors etc... for re framing of openings then its just simply time and material charged but in your case sounds pretty basic. Then depending on how much smaller new door opening will be compared to the old, you would have to consider siding repairs or if it only a few inches, then the aluminum material will take care of that no problem and still look nice.

Hope this helped.

Sincerely,

You would be looking at approximately $2,000 labor to install both of your exterior doors that you have. This would include interior door casing and exterior brick molding. I would recommend you call a trusted Pro in your local area to get a free quote. Jeff

The average labour cost to replace an exterior door is difficult because some replacements are easy and take a couple hours but some can encounter rot or the size is less than perfect. Those doors and take all day. None of the previous responses are wrong, $500 to $1000 per door is not unreasonable.

Just make sure your carpenter explains what the possible extra charges might be.

Looking at 500 for simple in and out install including exterior/interior trim work and caulking and cost could be upwards of 750-1000 depending on how much smaller the frame needs to be made including drywall repairs new trim and exterior work needing done
