We have a thin tile floor in our basement. The home was built in the late 1950's. We may possibly have asbestos under the tile. We are wanting to have new laminate or vinyl flooring installed in our basement but we first need an (hopefully at no charge) estimate done to see what the cost might be to have this work done. We had to remove the carpet in the basement back in mid-October 2013. Can you please get back to me as soon as you have a chance?
Thank you for your attention.
Jeff

We have a new build in the St Vital area and are looking to finish our basement. It is essentially a rectangular shape with a storage area and 2 or 3 piece bathroom. A simple design to make the room into a family room with a few workout items (treadmill etc.) and a projection home theatre system.

Not sure on the finishes in terms of carpet or hardwood, would like to get options on those.
We have a finished basement but have learned that the walls were not installed properly and do not float. We are interested in having this fixed and have heard that there is a way to do it that does not involve tearing down the existing walls. If anyone has solutions for this, I would be happy to hear from you.
We have a mostly finished basement but have learned that the walls were not installed properly and do not float; it's causing some issues upstairs. We are interested in having this fixed and have heard that there is a way to do it that does not involve tearing down the existing walls. If anyone has solutions for this, I would be happy to hear from you.

I have a basement beam that seems to be cracked and rolling. It is a two story house on Sherburn St. with an unfinished basement. The current support is 2 - 10x10 timbers supported in the middle with a 6x6 timber, I'm looking at either replacing the current 10 x 10 or switching to a solid steel beam if it means I could eliminate the centre support post. Getting the beam into the house shouldn't be an issue as we are mid renovations on most of the rest of the house anyway. Curious if this is something you would be able to do, an approximate cost and timeline on when it could take place.
Thank You
Ian W.

2 storey home - brand new to be turned over to us in Aug, want basement completed prior to moving in. Builder is completing the lower level bathroom and framing the walls and around beams as per standard plan (Sterling - Montego). Require the drywall/electrical, flooring (carpet or cork??) and ceiling (not sure if drop down or drywall, open to suggestions). The basement was raised to 9 foot ceilings, coming out 1 foot, so large windows. Would like a bar built next to bathroom, just with a sink, counter, cupboards and a fridge area.
Standard plan is utility room, batroom, 1 bedroom and then recroom area (see attached picture). Changes made include 1/2 the Recroom wall was extended 2 foot, and the steel beam was included).

bathroom, bedroom, home entertainment and office spaces, and storage (some in crawl space under front landing of split level)

basement is in a cabver design 1710 sqft house - two beams in basement, 2 teleposts per beam
gas or electric fire place part of home entertainment space
french doors into bedroom
extra closet space in bedroom
only seeking online estimates to get a ball park of costs - MAY do some of the work myself (e.g., plumbing, flooring); but must hire contractor to deal with moving telepost
some work done by previous owner - Exterior walls already framed in, but may need to remove some of framing
insulation and vapour barrier already done
most of electrical already done
bathroom roughed in, but not the way we want it - will need to move location of toilet (break open some of the concrete floor)
considering location gas or electric fireplace on an interior wall, but don;t know if this is possible (this is a design consideration)
