I am looking to have my bathroom refreshed with new facets; installation of a small hatch on the exterior wall to access plumping, and a new molding at the area where the wall and tub join and where the tub and floor meet. I'd also like to investigate having the door open outward as opposed to inward. The bathroom is very small and the inward swing makes the room even smaller.
I am also looking to have a small space in the basement made into a small workout room. Not looking for anything too elaborate but a 10 X 10 space with floor; ceiling and walls made conducive for a dry gym area. There is a small window that does not open that I would like replaced with a slider window.
The house is 60+ years with a very small bathroom and an unfinished basement with relative low ceilings.
Our house is one year old as of next month.
The basement is approximately 900 square feet and currently unfinished. Our back yard is approximately 30x40 with no fence.
In the basement, we would like a rec room, bedroom, bathroom and storage room, which would complete the unfinished area. In our back yard, we would like a fence around our property line enclosing the lawn and our deck.
We're hoping to pay average price for the material used to finish the basement as well as build the fence. (We dont require top of the line/expensive materials).
What is very important, is that a warranty comes along with the work that is done.
The other catch, is that we wouldn't be interested in the work starting until late winter/early spring 2011, so whatever quotes I am given, would have to be good for at least 8 months.
We are looking to renovate our unfinished basement, and require the following work completed:
1) strapping, insulation/noise proofing of entire ceiling (biggest job)
2) 2 doors and frames installed.
3) 1 wall (small) framed, insulated and jibbed.
4) small bathroom framed and jibbed (can't remember if it's already framed in?)
5) 1 small wall jibbed (hot water cupboard outside wall)
6) installation of window sills

Looking for a carpenter to build an L-shaped bar in a finished basement (house is 6 years old, finished basement is about 3 years old).
The size of the bar should be about 6' x 7' plus some simple shelving and cabinetry behind the bar.
The homeowners have basic ideas in mind (e.g., contemporary design), but ideas and suggestions are welcomed.
The project also includes replacing carpet with alternate flooring in and around the bar area (e.g., ceramic tile), and electrical (lighting around bar). Plumbing may be an option (sink).
We are purchasing a 1 year old home that has a basement with about 9 foot unfinished ceilings. The floor is presently cement, studs are up in some places and some gyprock in place. The plumbing for the bathroom is roughed in. We need separate rooms created for the bathroom and bedroom, and need a kitchen area and living space created within the remaining open space. We also need the furnace and hot water heater to be sectioned off in a room, and two closet spaces under the stairs to be filled in to function as closets.
Here is what we hope to do:
Drywalled ceiling as opposed to a suspended or drop ceiling;
Light coloured hardwood floors throughout, except cushion floor in bathroom and kitchen;
Bathroom with toilet, somewhat spacious shower, and sink with counter and small cabinet for storage;
Kitchen with counter space, cabinets, fridge, dishwasher, roughed in for range;
Bedroom with a reasonably sized clothes closet;
Sectioned off furnace/oil and place for storage;
2 storage closets on either side of stairs for linens etc.;
Place for stackable washer and dryer unit - likely in bathroom;
A good heat source for warmth in the winter;
Excellent lighting, some dimmers to control light;
Minimized humidity; and
Minimized noise transmission from upstairs.
We have budgeted about $40,000 for the project. We fully understand a contractor would need to see the space to accurately bid and quote on completing the work, and we can arrange for a meeting to see the space.
