We have a deck in pretty rough shape on the side of our house that we'd like addressed before winter hits. Want to replace with something similar and possibly add a section that either wraps around the front, or maybe some stairs that lead down to the backyard. Looking for a couple quotes/ideas to help us choose the best strategy.
Existing deck is roughly 15 feet by 7 feet. I plan to do the demo myself (and other manual labour tasks) to cut down on costs. If you think you can help, please contact.
Two wooden pillars provided at portico, which partially supports portico small roof at entrance to house, are rotten and needs to be replaced with two new identical pillars.
- Round pillar size is 7-1/4 inces in diameter, approximately 9 ft. in height and of about 1 inch thickness with hollow inside. It is a laminated wood supports pillar.
- It is has been painted white 2 or 3 coats.
- Pillars are kept on rectangular bases.
- Provide new pillars and bases with wood end treatment and painted.
- WORK WILL INVOLVE: Remove the both sides handrails connected to pillars and concrete floor, provide temoprary supports to support the small portico roof (size 6 ft X 6 ft; other side of roof is fixed to wall of house); install new pillars, remove temporary supports, fix handrails; clean the work area, make good any damages made during work.
- Photos of pillar is attached.
We have a deck along due sides of our house but may be having to take it up due to mice in the crawl space under the kitchen, which was an add on, and the exterminators feel they can't assess how the mice are getting in. There are two part of the deck that will likely need to be removed and replaced (we think we can save the current wood) one part is 8x12 feet. The other part is long and narrow and is 32 inches by 15 feet. Both parts of the deck are only slightly off the ground which is uneven and slightly slopped (under 2 feet at the highest point off the ground). This is an old house (70+) though the kitchen addition is newer as is the deck.
I wanted to get an estimate for a small project I need to have done before the end of June to satisfy my insurance company. What I would like is a veranda/deck by the side door from our garage that will provide enough space for our green bin. The area is roughly 8 feet by 2.5 feet. It is no more than 20 inches above ground at the highest point and reduces to a few inches above grade in the front. I wanted a small ramp up to the veranda/deck rather than a step so I can wheel the green bin up. All it needs is a ledger board fastened into the foundation, a couple of posts to support the veranda, concrete post blocks, joists, decking and prefinished rail sections. Is this something you could squeeze in during the next few weeks, and if so could I get an estimate from you.
Built about 10 yrs ago- Deck was painted with an oil based paint when purchased and has been re-painted since
Removal of existing paint( sanding? bleaching?) to enable the surfaces to be stained, Wood is in good condition.
Could you recommend some one to do the job or paint removal and re staining of the deck?
