Partially (almost finished) basement in the house I just bought.
I want to make it effectively a separate apartment for my parents to live, so I need to have a nice separate entrance made, finish the rough-in kitchen, and do essentially anything that needs to be done to get a proper Ajax permit for it to be made a separate dwelling (to increase property value).
I want the contractor to handle this for me, as well as all the permits.
I am the owner of the house.
Hi, We are planning to finish our basement to an apartment with 1 bedroom, bathroom(rough in already there) and kitchen, and we wanted to keep other side of the basement to ourself. We wanted to enlarge the windows. Right now we don't have any side entrance, we would like to get that too. No excavation needed.
We also wanted to get our upstair bathroom renovated. We wanted to add laundry.
Our budget is $35000 for the basement and the bathroom upstairs.
We need to renovate a 800 sqft. (approx) size basement. It's a condo/town and everything must be done up to code and permits are required.
We want to box up the furnace and water tank, 1 bedroom with a closet, 3 peice bathroom, storage/cold room. The rest is open space.

To remodel the existing powder room, the full bathroom and masterbedroom washroom... and possibly putting in a new full bathroom in the basement. I have already installed two flush toilets and put in the ceramic tiles The main renovation is to upgrade showers and tubs, sinks and stands, lighting, floor(wherever necessary) and painting. Please give me two estimates that one includes the basement washroom and the other just with the renovations on the existing washrooms. The measurement of the powder room is 90"x66"(excluding a closet space of 28"x54" in the laundry room); the full bathroom is 90"96"(excluding a linen closet of 29"x32" in hall way); and the masterbedroom one is of 11'x12'(excluding a walk-in closet space of 2'x6'. The size of the potential basement washroom is 90"x96". Please advice. Thank you!
We are looking at an entertainment centre, with a wet bar and a 2 piece bathroom. An open concept would be ideal, as a result one of the stacks between the supporting pillars would need to be relocated, possibly boxed with one of the supports. The bathroom would ideally be located where the laundry currently exists. The proposed wet bar to be located at the unfinished wall of the office. Budgeting approx. $3500 for the bar, max. 6 feet in length, either store bought or have it made. The proposed home entertainment setup at the opposite wall from the bar. We would prefer a drywalled ceiling. The laundry and bathroom area to be tiled ( ceramic ). The rest of the basement with a good quality laminate with a subfloor??. The stairs to be opened up at the base and possibly having a dart board in this area as we come downstairs.
Hello, I live in an end unit freehold townhouse, my basement is partially finished from the builder, however, I require and egress window with the hopes of creating a basement apartment for my University bound son.
I hope for an exterior entrance leading into the backyard if possible, by enlarging an existing back window into a doorway and creating an entrance. If this is possible great, otherwise this window would be enlarged as an egress window for the bedroom.
Part I: Main project: the current living room would be turned into a bedroom with closet, there is another very small window of the right hand side of the wall under some duct work (maybe that could be enlarged to an egress window, providing the exterior door is possible otherwise I would just enlarge the window leading towards the back of the house, see pictures). The rough in plumbing is on the unfinished part of the basement and by the looks of it I would need to move it to the opposite side of the finished basement due to the configuration, I am looking for a quote on the egress window, a bedroom with closet, a new bathroom and a finished living room area with approximately 8 pot lights. All the floors will need to be done (rip out existing carpet, replace with laminate and tile the bathroom).
I welcome suggestions concerning a better layout however, I don't think it is possible to add a window or door way to the unfinished portion of the basement.
Part 2: Eventually, I'd like to install a kitchenette in a different location in the basement (picture not included, increase the electrical panel, create an enclosed furnace room, install a stand up washer/dryer.
We live in a 6 year old townhome buiilt by Tormina Homes located in Ajax Ont. and are looking to have our basement finished, We currently have half the basement framed with wood stubs and that's it.
We're looking to have a two piece washrrom installed (rough in complete) along with a small laundry room and seperate room to be used as an office. We also have a cold room that I'd love to have ideas to making more appeling then it currently is.
Were open to idea's are not looking for anything too complicated

Bulkheads and ceiling - dry walled.
20 pot lights, receptacles and switches as needed

Storage room under stairs to be left unfinished.
Move laundry(washer/dryer) near to furnace and enclose - this space to be left unfinished.
currently walls are R8 insulated - partially. Need to insulate all the way with minimum r12 insulation and vapour barrier.
The walls should be primed and painted.
colonial baseboard to be applied to all base, trim, doors and bathroom.
Place heat vents and cold air returns where necessary.
We started the project ourselves but find its taking us to long so the drywall has been approx 3/4 finished. Our basement is between 800-1000 sq feet. In total the basement is 4 rooms, a closet, staircase and a hallway. 1 rooms drywall and taping is done, just some muddying needed.
Other two rooms are 3/4 done with drywall. Need to finish the drywall and do tapping and muddying still of these rooms.
Hallway hasn't even been started.
We can purchase all materials and just want to pay for labor. We are the owners of the home.
We are using a mix of steel track and lumber.
This is not an apartment or anything. Just adding a living space, office, storage, laundry room and playroom to our home for more room.
I'm considering finishing the basement of my home (approx 1200 sq ft) and or replacement of carpeting from the main floor of my home approx 800 sq ft). I have grown children that are still living at home so I'd like to prepare my home to either accommodate all of us here or move to something more suitable to our needs. I also have a water leak from a shower stall on the upper floor since purchase from tribute homes 13 years ago. They resealed around the shower several times but the problem was never resolved so the shower was never again used.
