We would like to do our basement renovation asap (our oldest is moving back in and we need the space). We need a bathroom, bedroom, storage/laundry room. The bathroom will be near existing plumbing and the laundry room is already in the basement. However, the renovation will require plumbing for the bathroom and the laundry room sink and electrical throughout. The rest of the space will be an open room, very basic. The basement is approximately 1000sq feet. We are thinking of having carpet in the stairs leading to the basement, tiles in the laundry room (we already have them) and laminate flooring in the rest of the space. The basement is not damp or humid at all. We have the light fixtures for the bedroom, bathroom and laundry/storage rooms. We would like pot lights in the rest of the basement.
I have an unfinished basement I would like to finish. I would like to add a bathroom with steam shower installed, and move my laundry around to allow for a small space to be open as much as possible. The basement is not big, so the job would not be a really long process, and I am able to complete some of the renovation myself once most of the hard stuff is done, I should leave to the pros to do.
My project involves improving an existing finished basement to meet OBC and enhancing the look and feel of the space. The main ideas I have so far include:
BEDROOM
-converting an existing storage room (has a window, wiring, studs, and drywall on walls but drywall was not done right and will need to be replaced) into a really nice third bedroom with closet and knock-down ceiling. Will need to cut through one wall to install a door to this bedroom. Some electrical work will also be needed (e.g. moving some plugs, adding plugs).
KITCHEN
-vent hood fan in existing kitchen outside
-shift two small cabinets about 6" to accommodate a full size stove
-remove hood fan and install new OTR microwave
-MAYBE install a peninsula in kitchen (flooring is ceramic tile) - depends on cost
GREAT ROOM
-install an egress window that is nicely finished outside for curb appeal (i.e. retaining wall with steps)
-MAYBE install an electric fireplace
MISC
-replace current regular door into apartment with fire-rated wooden door
-install Roman classic closet doors in the three bedrooms (two existing bedrooms plus the one I'm thinking of adding)
-remove plastic tub/shower surround in bathroom and prep wall for shower niche, Kerdi water membrane and ceramic subway tile (membrane and tile to be done by someone else)
My project also requires a design professional who has the qualifications to interpret the apartment I have in my home in relation to the Ontario Building Code, fire code and ESA standards, help me submit simple drawings to the City of Barrie for approval (I'm working on the drawings myself) so that I can get a building permit and register the apartment with the City of Barrie once the work has been done because I plan to have a tenant.
I'm looking for a contractor who does first-class work, pays close attention to detail/finishing, maintains a clean job site, is a clear communicator, very respectful, trustworthy, and will stay on budget and meet project milestones.
Currently I have an unfinished basement that I would like to be turned into a rec room, 2 piece bathroom with the laundry room unfinished.
The rec room would roughly be 25'X25', thinking pot lights, ceiling and walls dry walled and painted, a decent laminate flooring that could take some impact, would want to turn underneath the stairs a closet for storage.
There is a rough in for a bathroom. I would like to see the difference in cost if I put in a shower but I am not entirely sure if it is needed.
This is a starter town home that I am looking to add some value to when I sell in a few years.
Thank you,
Jim
We are looking to have our basement completed.
We are looking to have an open concept basement with 2 distinct areas.
1. Laundry Room (area)
2. Family/Play room (area)
The basement is approximately 600 sq ft and is rectangular in shape, with stairs from the upper level at one end and the an exit to the garage at the other.
We also have a crawl space which houses our furnace, water main and sump pump.
We are looking to have the project begin as soon as possible.
Thanks in advance
Michael
I'm looking to get my basment completed and was looking for some quotes. This project would include a sound proof media/bedroom, family room and a 3 piece bathroom. The basemnt is 49"X27" and requies 3 areas to be completed:
1) Media/bedroom 17X14
2) Siiting room 20X18
3) Bathroom 9X9
The remaining area is for storage and will not require finishing.
The bedroom/Media room will need to have a window changed out to support buliding code changes for fire exit.
I think that is all I'm aware of.
Thanks
My home is a 14 year old raised bungalow. The basement is partially finished and I would like to I finish the remainder adding two bedrooms and a bathroom. Full basement is around a 1000 square feet with about 450 not yet finished. May involve removal of wall that is already there. I am also looking for suggestions as how to best utilize the space.
We would like to turn our storage area into an office. It already has barrier, studs and insulation. Electrical is done and i need to finish the walls, ceiling and a partition wall. The space is approximatley 12 by 20 in a house that is 3 years old. It has 10 foot ceilings and one 2 by 3 window. I will also need to have a subfloor put in. I will paint and install any fixtures. One bulkhead will need to be installed around some duct work.
Thank you and I look forward to your quote.
Our basement is unfinished and roughed in for a bathroom. It is approximately 1200 sq. feet. Our house is 5 years old. There have not been previous renovations done to the space. We would like a family room, an additional bathroom (3 piece with shower) and a bedroom finished in the basement. We would like the family room to include a gas fireplace.
Approx 1500 squart foot. Drywall has been put up and space divided. All needs to be reconfigured correctly. Lots of drywal that can be reused. Timeframe for completion is key. Start Oct 28 - Completion required by Nov 30. Large open spaces wanted hardwood and bathroom. This is for a newly purchased home.
30 y.o. 1100 sq/ft semi, I believe it's an old Pratt home. Require it to be framed. Totally bare, except for two part walls under support joist in the middle of the room. Framing required is pretty straight forward. Frame entire basement with one laundry/furnace/1/2 bath room, frame in basement stairs. Basement will be empty when work will be performed, except for washer/dryer/wash basin, furnace and a small freezer. Local enquiries only, please. Within 50km of home.
I'm looking for someone to redo my basement after flooding. Jobs that would need to be done are laminate floor, drywall and baseboard, install 1 interior door and remove and install new vanity. Also, the stairs would need flooring done as well. The area affected has been gutted and it's just remaining carpet in area that would need to be removed. Approximately around 600 square feet.
