Hello, to whom it may concern,
I would appreciate some input on cost and length of work estimated on opening an entrance to the basement by going through the laundry floor (inside the house) situated inside the house's side entrance. I have existing stairs already in the middle of the house which I would like it removed or transferred to the new location. I live in northeast Brampton and the house is 22 years old.
Please reply ASAP. Thank you

I need to get the following done:
Install about 25 feet (maximum) of baseboard. I need it installed on the stairs going down to the basement and in a small area in the basement. Close two holes in the ceiling (small holes that were made for potlights). Close an opening between the stair and the wall (small area about 2 feet tall by 6 inches wide). Shave off a bit off the door to my walk in closet to allow it to fit properly in the door opening. Add a reducer/transition strip for the following: laminate in living area of basement to tile in washroom, laminate from bedroom to tile in washroom, laminate in bedroom to laminate in walk in closet. Apply trim around one small window in basement.
If you have a student/apprentice that you are training I would prefer to use them as I have a very limited budget to get this work done.
I am looking for your quote on a new half stair case including the following:
- new set of stringers painted white semi-gloss (preferred solid wood for texture/finish)
- 7 risers (prefer white oak but could agree to painted white to match stringers)
- 6 treads in white oak
- new stair nosing in white oak to transition to existing engineered white oak flooring (3/4" flooring - total width required of approx. 41")
- width of existing corridor is ~36" (drywall to drywall)
- include materials and installation of new stairs + nosing and removal of existing stairs
- I will take care of disposal
- I will take care of trim
I look forward to hearing from you.
I live in the north end of Brampton. My home is 22 years old, and this past fall I discovered that the two 6" square wood columns on my porch are beginning to rot. As far as I can tell the columns are hollow, with no steel columns inside. As such I believe they need to be replaced with an equal or better product. Structural integrity, aesthetics and a quality finish are all high on my priority list for this project. I’m hoping that the work can be done sometime this spring or summer.
My new home is being built but because we're not doing hardwood flooring through the builder, the builder has built the nosing on the 2nd floor (and maybe a bit on the 1st floor) to 5/8" to match the carpet that's going in instead of 3/4" to match the hardwood flooring. I estimate about 13 feet of railing on 2nd floor (straight, one 90 degree corner) and 4 feet on 1st floor. The railing and staircase is stained maple wood.
When I contacted some hardwood flooring shops to provide estimates for the work, some shops recommended sanding the subfloor, some recommended adding a bezel to the flooring and one advised to do neither as this would make a small but significant difference between the height of the flooring and the top step which is dangerous and then recommended I find a finish carpenter to raise the nosing and advised that this needs to be done before the hardwood flooring is put in.
In order to prepare my staircase and nosing for hardwood throughout the 1st and 2nd floors, what changes need to be made, how long will it take to do and what is the estimated cost?
I am attaching the floor plans of the house so you can see the staircase, railings and the floor to be changed from carpet to hardwood. Every non-tiled room will be changed to hardwood.
How much would you charge to refinish our stairs and landing area?
The dimensions for the landing pad is 48"x78". Each stair is 7 inches high and 49 inches wide.
As you can see, my husband tried to take off the top layer paint; but he couldn't do any more of that due to time constraints.
I'm looking to change my spindles and railings of my stair case. The home is about 22 years old in Brampton (Dixie and Howden) and the current spindles are out dated. We're looking to replace them with a more modern square look. There are about 100 spindles that wraps around the second floor looking down. The home is currently in renovations and we would like it complete by January 7th.

We are doing a complete gut & rebuilt.
