Looking for a simple but functional design for a small backyard.
1. Need walkway into the yard (17ft x 4 ft) done - currently has grass that doesn't thrive.
2. Need garden design for backyard area of 17ft x 24ft.
3. Also interested in potentially removing grass and landscaping between two houses (67ft x 5ft).
We have a house in kitchener that we are wanting to get ready to sell. It is on a very small lot. The front yard needs some 'curb' appeal and there is a HUGE magnolia tree in the backyard which I imagine should be taken out and new landscaping done. We are also considering putting a deck off the sunroom which would be terraced down. Need ideas and quotes! We are looking at having people in to quote the 1st week of may with work to commence the end of may/beginning of june.
Thanks
Need some odd jobs completed outside the home. Earth removed from property ( 2 cubic yards) Ground leveling. (8x10 area) Pre purchased shed installed - requires concrete or wood base. Old shed demolished and site repaired. Approx. 8 ft of wooden fence to be installed.
Would need a price or estimate.
Summary of work:
- replace deck with stone patio (17' x 40')
- keep existing balcony over current deck and support/reinforce as needed
- build a roof attached to the house for shade adjacent to the existing balcony
- build a concrete ramp and steps from the side driveway to the backyard. The existing retaining wall is to be adjusted as needed.
I have an existing retaining wall at the back of my house, but I am looking to push portions of it back a few feet, and to extend it with the hope that I can create enough space to put in a small plunge pool.
I do not want to waste anyone's valuable time, so I want to be clear about some potential challenges.
The house is built into a hill. The driveway approaches the house from the left side, but there is no path for machinery on that side as there are retaining walls and a steep set of stairs on that side.
Access would be from the right, requiring traffic across the front yard. that side is a little tight but there is access. The house is on septic, and the cleanout is on the front of the property, and I am not sure how far the bed extends into the front lawn, but it could impede access further, depending on the equipment required.
The existing retaining wall is a two tier stacked brick system. I am not wild about it, but am open to continuing with the same brick, or switching to another system (poured concrete, gabion, or armour stone). The landscape and accessibility might impact what the best option is.
I am looking for someone that is able to come out and properly assess the site, discuss scope, and options, and provide a quote.
I have titled the project Retaining Wall, as this is the critical component for the bigger overall project, but the end goal would be to put in a small pool. The pool may be independent, or part of the retaining system, but if the pool does not remain feasible I would not move forward with the retaining wall.
If a contractor offers both services, that would be a bonus, but not a prerequisite.
Pool dimensions would be small (in the 8.5ftx17ft range), and preference is fiberglass.
We have an older home with a detached garage. The garage is approx. 16 x 27 feet and is built on a floating concrete pad. Level at the front, the ground slopes down at about 9 feet into the length of the garage to a final grade of 4 feet below the garage floor (50 inches to be exact). The existing structure is retained by railway tie retaining wall. Most of the railway ties are rotted, and while we don't see any recent settling, there has been cracking and settling of the pad.
We would like to replace rather than repair the existing railway tie wall. Since it is at 4 feet, we'd like an engineering assessment of our options. I believe a full concrete wall with footers, stone block, or a pier based (soldier pile) wall would work. In particular we had hoped to do a pile based wall since it would allow us to keep the garage well supported during the construction and replace the existing wall segment by segment. Assuming this type of construction is appropriate, we would want an engineering recommendation for pile depth, beam size, lag timber size etc.
Thanks,
Matthew & Laura
