The house was built in 1940. The previous owners redid the whole house except the basement. The basement is partly finished - 200 sq ft has ceramic tile floors, wood panelled walls, and a full bathroom but the electricity does not work on the whole side and there is no insulation. The other 200 sq feet has a slightly uneven cement floor (the foundation) and unfinshed walls and houses the washer, dryer and furnace - the electricty works on this side of the room. There is also very poor cold air return. Things we want done:
1. Level and finish the floor (200 sq feet) - either subfloor or poured cement. Cover 160 sq feet with carpet.
2. Demolish all wall partitions and open it all up (see photos).
3. Remove all wood paneling, install insulation and drywall.
4. Install drywall ceiling with pot lights
5. Install drywall around washer/dryer/furnace area creating a separate little room.
6. Fix electricity in half of room where is not working
7. Improve cold air return
House was built in 1917. Basement floor was re-poured in early 1990s (elevated) so nice and level. Partial renovation exists in spa area: (quality bathroom, walk in shower with ceramic floor and small finished area (7 x 6) also with ceramic) and beautiful cedar sauna (we don't use but would like to save wood and incorporate into rec room design). Want to use existing floor space below stairs and capitalze on under stairs storage area. Most of basement is drywalled but ceiling is open. Don't see this as a big job--just need to think creatively about re-design, incorporating spa area into undeveloped area to maximize space available (not a big basement by any means but would need to take small wall down in between spa and rest of area to be developed--other basement area includes workshop and other storage area--there would be two existing basement windows in finished room--already nicely trimmed in wood). Main feature of house is lots of exposed wood and we would want the same continuity in the basement (as mentioned, lots of nice cedar could be rescued from sauna dismantling). We have three kids ages 6, 7 and 8 so our budget is limited but the right person could do a really nice job building on what exists now...
We just purchased a 1947 house and want to finish the basement. The issue in the basement is it is going to be used to accomodate two different activities. One half of one side of the basement will be occupied with weight room equipment and the other half will be used as a rec room area to watch TV. The weight room equipment requires rubberized flooring while the rec room portion will be finished with carpet. We understand that our concrete basement has to have the original layers of chipped concrete paint removed / grinded off before a leveling concrete can be poured. The ceilings are low so were are hoping to lay a waterproof membrane down such as Superseal down and then apply carpet and the rubberized flooring overtop.
We are looking for a serious contractor/company that will look at the basement (at no obligation) and provide a quote within 5 days of viewing the area. Please note that there are several other projects/ upgrades being scheduled for this house. If the awarded contrator does a good job, this could work out to multiple jobs in the future. Thanks

I'd like to expand and improve my basement. It is half finished and I'd like to move the dividing wall back 10 feet. The wall to be moved is framed but has just rough plywood for the wall surface. I'd also like to drywall the ceiling and the ceiling of the staircase. There is a subfloor that will need to be expanded too so it can be carpeted. The existing drywall is fine but may need a skim coat and touch up. There will be also be some electrical work for the lighting. Currently there is an old drop ceiling that I will tear down.

Basement is almost 800 sq ft
We are in need of a basement renovation. A design would be required as part of the proposal. The space is very roughly 400-500 square feet.
Hardwood flooring, a bar area and media room are envisioned. An existing bathroom is to be modernised, and maybe made into a much smaller powder room (to be discussed). There is a drop ceiling that would need to be replaced with a drywall ceiling with potlights. A storage/furnace area might need to be enlarged and smart, built in storage for seasonal items and books could be considered. There is wood paneling that would need to be removed, so some drywall will be required. Photos are included.
Very open to ideas, designs and proposals. Prefer not to spend more than 25000, but understand this depends on the final design. Would prefer that work commence as soon as possible.

1947 built 2 story home. Basement has concrete floor an an old cistern in it, One side of the basement is always dry the other side can become wet with heavy rain. The ceiling is low with duct work showing. At present you can walk comfortably down there if you are 5 feet 10 or so. We will be putting in a new is
furnace this month.
I do not want a high end basement renovation. I want the basement to be dry and the room to be finished as a comfortable recreation room. We would want some windows put in to give some natuarl light, a bathroom with a shower, room for a pool table and a tv viewing area. Also some storage space for games vidios etc.
The area where the cistern is located I would possibly like to put a small bedroom there.
The square footage is approximate 900 sq. feet.
Thanks
Carol

I would like to renovate the basement which is partially finished.
Right now the basement has a fully finished bathroom, unfinished ceiling, laminate flooring, two small closets and a living area.
The following are the things I would like to have done in the basement:
- Bathroom remodel
- Drywall ceiling
- Open concept design
- Extend existing Closet
- Vinyl Flooring install
- New island
- Fix staircase
I like to do a basement renovation as an apartment in Orleans (15 minutes from Ottawa downtown). It would include one bed room, front door with complete side entrance, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, laundry and 2 egress windows. City permit is ready. Professionals may please get back to me on this. Please note that we should keep social distancing and always wear a mask due to COVID 19 situation across the country.
Frame outside walls and two inner walls; install wiring; insulate outside walls; frame around electrical panel; hang and tape drywall; install lighting and switches; install rug or laminate flooring; install doors; frame beside stairs; frame in shelving along one inside wall; finish ceilings and install light fixtures; floor space of basement approximately 690 sq. ft.
The basement is partially finished at the moment. We want to update it and make it a nice living space, so that we can have basement bedrooms, office, etc..
First floor is about 950 sq ft, and basement is about the same (including furnace area).
There are some walls and doorways, but everything is really badly done (walls are just thin wood panel. Electrical needs updating. Probably need to rip out walls and put new insulation. Would like new windows (preferably long ones) to let in more light.
Floor is quite sloped towards the drain, so would like to make it flat (or flatter) if possible.
Also, ducting should probably be re-worked and ideally it would be nice to have good air circulation (there are no cold air return vents).
Looking for someone who is willing to allow us to do some of the work to cut down on the costs.
