We have a bungalow, approximately 40 years old, that we do not feel has enough space in the back of the house. We would like to know how much it would cost to extend the house back, including the basement, so that each room can have another 5 feet of living place. Rooms include 2 bedrooms 1 bathroom and a mudroom, combined length of all rooms is approximately 40 feet. Possible complication is the septic tank may need to be moved.
1999 Taramack Yorkshire. Need to add a an extra bedroom over the garage. Garage is two car. Front Facade is Brick. In addition to the construction over the garage, need partition walls in existing bedroom to create a hallway for access to new bedroom. Also includes removal of existing bedroom wall by stair to be replaced with Oak railing continuing existing railing. Job also includes remodelling the ensuite for access to the new bedroom. Bathroom Sink moves but all other fixtures stay in place. Bathroom Tile would be removed and replaced Planning vaulted ceiling in new bedroom. Floors hardwood.
My wife and I are looking to get a family room addition on the back of our home. We are looking at 300-350 sqft. We would like to know the pricing options between different foundation types (full vs piers). We are looking to have a small powder room added to the addition, and would like large windows at the rear.
We are also looking to get the kitchen updated and the main level (hardwood) floors re-finished.
There is currently a deck on the rear of the home which will need to be removed.
I have attached a preliminary design for the addition. (I have other file formats available: *.dxf, *.svg, *.png).
The current home is the front entrance, living room, dining room and kitchen. The kitchen layout we are not looking to change much, but the cabinets are old and we want to replace them. We are not looking to replace appliances. We are looking to open the rear wall into the new family room to have a nice open space.
We are looking to have all work wrapped up by the beginning of September, 2019.
This addition consists of construction of roughly an 8x10 enlargement to the front entrance of my home. the structure or shell is what is required. ie: foundation or footings, stud walls, floor, window and door and roof. Electrical, insulating, drywall and finishing not included. The house was built in 1978.
To extend front entrance onto exiting concrete front step (covered in interlock) - permit required. We would like the existing door to be used as well as two small rectangular windows to be added near the ceiling on each side of the addition. We would also like the inside of the addition to be finished and tiled, and existing sliding mirrored front closet doors to be replaced with new hinged doors
We are looking to add an approx 550sq addition onto the side of our home. Addition would be a master bedroom with on-suite bathroom. We require a full foundation to be tied into our existing basement. Will require framing, insulation, drywall, electrical and plumbing. Also require addition to be tied into existing house, siding and roofing. Looking to have this project completed by fall 2012. Would appreciate a quote that itemizes costs (ie. framing = $, Electrical = $). Thanks.
Hi, We would basically like to push the back of the house out as we have a fairly deep backyard. Home addition to include the following:
Main floor: spare office/study, 4-season sunroom (or a spare family room), kitchen adjustment.
Top floor: New master bedroom, with ensuite and walk-in closet.
Basement: TBD
Home addition: 2 floors of new construction on back of existing house, size 14'x22' each floor. Also interested in building 3rd floor master into unfinished atttic. I have accurate plans of current home and sketches of my 'wish list' new construction. Wish list includes new living room, extended kitchen on first floor, mud room bump out with staircase from existing footprint, 2 bedrooms and hallway on 2nd floor and master bedroom with ensuite, walk-in closet and small deck on third floor. I am anxious to hear your expert advice and receive a quote!
We are currently purchasing a home with a main house in the front and an in law suite in the rear of the house. The in law suite is currently on 2 levels -the 2nd level we want to incorporate into the main house and add an addition to the first level of the in law suite. The size we are looking at is approx 500 st ft all ground floor level.
House built 1971. High ranch bungalow. Garage extended from house approx 6 feet. Need to extend part of house above garage to even out. Replace deck doors in this area with window (crank open on both sides of window). Need to remove current stone on front of house and replace with brick that matches current brick on rest of house. Replace siding around whole home with stucco. Extending entrance with matching peak roof to extension. New double doors that we will provide.
Hi, I am looking to convert my 3 season sun room into part of my house. I will need the floor relaid as it is missing floor joices and insulated, also, it is built with a 2x4 frame and lots of windows so the insulation process will need to be creative, a few walls will need built and one wall torn down.
We are looking at building an extension to our house (final dimensions approx.4,5m x 10 m) to accommodate a woodworking workshop that could easily be converted into a garage and/or guest bedroom if we decided to sell the house in the long run.
-The extension would be rectangular and off one corner of the house slightly to the side and on the backyard with a door connecting the living room to the extension.
-We imagine a garage door with windows in it at one end, large workshop windows all down one side of the extension and skylights in the roof.
-It could be all on one level, have a mezzanine or have have a studio area under the roof we are undecided, all with no need for a basement.
-Uncertain whether we need plumbing brought in
-Uncertain whether to connect that extension to the existing forced air gas furnace and AC or install electric radiators on a separate thermostat since the heating need will be different from the rest of the house.
I would like to get guidance and help with the planning, building codes, permit, etc, all the administrative end of things, but carry out most of the actual construction myself with occasional help and assistance.
Is that something that you would be interested in ? Please give us some indication of pricing for that service if you are able to with your response. Thank you.

We would like to renovate our Glebe home (built in the 1920's) in Ottawa by adding an extension to renovate our kitchen and add a mudroom. We would also like to add a room in the basement below the new kitchen extension. The basement has been renovated within the past 5 years. The biggest issue is that we would like to start the project as soon as possible, preferrably this spring/summer (2011).
We are currently looking at buying and building on to a new home. We are currently house hunting in our preferred neighbourhood and have come across a property that is very old and very small, but has a VERY large backyard (lot is 60x160 feet),We are considering buying this home and adding on a very large two storey addition. The current home is a small bungalow with two bedrooms on main floor and one in the basement and a bathroom on each floor. It has a small kitchen area and living room. We were thinking of completely redoing and adding 1000 sq ft downstairs and 1000 sq ft to a new upstairs addition. It is essentially 'building a new home' but in the form of an addition to an existing very small one. Everything a home would need would have to be done (furnace, AC,new garage etc..)
I understand this would be a very big project with lots of variables however I would like to know if and how it can be done. I have been doing research and they say building an average house with decent fixtures is about $200 / sqft. Is this accurate? What other costs are there? we would like a more higher end home (not just basics).
It would be good to know a rough estimate of how much such a thing would cost (and if you have experience with such a thing before that would be great!). This would be helpful for us to figure out if we should invest in buying a lot to build or just buy an existing house and renovate it on the inside.
We would like to add a mudroom over an existing cold room/front steps. There is a foundation in place. The house dates from the late 1950's and has a brick and siding exterior. We would like to make sure that it allows for natural light but at the same time has significant closet/storage space. Size is approximately 6' by 9-10'
I have plans and a permit for an approximately 10x10 mudroom addition to our house. It is located behind the garage and next to the kitchen (2 interior walls, 2 exterior walls). The roof above the garage will have to be altered to align with the existing roof to cover the mudroom.
Contractor who did the drawings over the winter didn't have capacity this spring/summer to build it. Thought everyone was booked up, but figured I'd try and see.
Would be an addition onto the back of the house with basement refinishing. This would include a kitchen remodel and an addition of a full bath in the basment. So it would be foundation, framing, plumbing, electrical. The exterior will be primarily masonary but would be done by a family member's company.
I am looking for companies with experience in roof raising. I have a cape cod style home, with dog house dormers on each side. The area under the roof is finished and livable.
We are interested in raising the roof and expanding the living space under the roof. The space currently under the roof would become a 3rd floor with office/storage/sitting room. No plumbing would be required on the 3rd floor. Heating is radiant and radiators would have to be extended to the 3rd floor.
Anyone with experience in the Ottawa area? Photo's, website, appreciated.
Thanks
This will be a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom 850 sq ft addition on the second floor of a bungalow. Addition will go over the area of home above entry and left of entry. Exterior stone and cladding does not need to be included. This addition will need no changes to the main floor. Finishings will be medium quality with berber carpet and porcelein tile in bathrooms. Just looking for a average sq ft cost.
We are adding (15 x 30) 450 ft2 to our second story, looking for an expert to build new exterior walls, frame, remove existing siding and replace of existing siding with new exterior that matches the finish on the new extension.
The main level of the house has a covered porch 12 x 15 that we want to convert to usable living space, taking out 2 exterior walls, and reframing around the 12 x 15 porch making the porch area part of the house now. We want a full poured foundation, extending the house's current foundation to under the newly converted porch, so the main floor has a full consistent basement. Main floor is painted white brick, we are receptive to the main floor addition being siding as it's at the back of the house.
We will lay interior flooring and can drywall and finish interior walls, we are interested in expertise for the foundation and exterior wall adjustments and look forward to quotes.
