We need to add two dormers to our upper story (1-1/2 story home). Right now there are three bedrooms. One bedroom doesn't have an egress window (just a skylight). We would like to add a dormer/window to that room in order to have another point of escape and also to bring in more light. Across the hall, we would like to add another dormer for either a powder room or a full bathroom -- probably about 6x6 with a window. We would want both dormers to be the same size so that it's balanced visually on the outside of the house. The structural engineer has been in and says it can be done (hasn't issued the report, yet). We would only need the framing/roofing done and the window installation, as we'll be responsible for all the interior work (we have people to do the plumbing and electrical and we will do all of the interior finishes). We haven't made the final decision to go ahead on this project, yet, as we've never costed out dormers before (usually we do all the renovation work ourselves -- but this is beyond us!). We're trying to decide whether or not to renovate or if we should just sell. We would really appreciate getting some quotes on this (understanding that it's impossible to give an accurate quote unless you actually see the property). Thanks!
I have 6 windows and 2 doors which were installed by a contractor who never came back to finish the exterior (parging, insulation, caulking, flashing etc.). 2 windows are mid-size basement windows which are completely unfinished, 3 are small basement windows which are partially finished and 1 is a medium-large garage window and also not finished. The two doors are normal, single exterior doors.
I'd like this done very soon, hopefully this week.
In our 1950's bungalow, we are looking to replace a row of 3 windows that only start at eye-level with a large window and a patio door leading out onto a small deck.
Creating the opening for the larger window and door will involve cutting through stone as the exterior wall is clad with natural stone up to half height (finished by a thick stone ledge running around the house)
The deck will be a straightforward rectangle of about 7x12 feet, no steps. I'm thinking of pressure-treated wood for the decking and a white (composite?) railing.
The site is in our front yard and fairly accessible.
Need to replace the old mud coated crushed stone, and install a larger window well, and regrade around the well. Curent well is approx 46" x 28"; new well needs to be higher.
When it rains, water seeps in from the sides, carrying mud which then coats the crushed stone so water doesnt drain.

My house is a semi-detached in downtown Ottawa, approx 100 years old. I want to replace the siding on one wall of the house, and improve the insulation of that wall at the same time. Currently there is some sort of shingling on the wall. The wall is fairly close to the neighbouring house. I also want to replace most of the windows in the house. Some are very old, others are newer (25 years maybe) and the seals have gone. 7-10 windows total, and possibly a patio door as well.
I am really hoping to complete this project in time for the Home Reno Tax credit (as I'm sure many other people are!)
Looking for an experience contractor that has a truck to carry windows. To do all our windows, Doors and thermo glass installs on an ongoing basis. Currently our company has dealers across Canada and the US and we decided to launch corporate operations nationwide. Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa are the first cities that we are covering.
The front door of our home is made of solid wood and seems to expand and contract with the weather. It is very difficult to open when the weather is too humid, wet or cold. We are looking for someone to help us find a solution that allows us to keep our beautiful front door but actually be able to use it. It may just be a matter of sanding it down and refinishing it to prevent it from absorbing moisture.
Our home is a heritage home and the door is quite new (within the last 5 years) so we are not looking to replace it.
We are looking for the work to be done as soon as possible. Please email if you are interested in this work. We are happy to provide additional details as needed to receive a quote.
Thanks in advance!
Katherine and Bruno
