Learned a hard lesson by hiring a "friend of a friend" to install hardwoods floors. The job wasn't completed properly and he never returned to finish!
What's needed:
-Install transition strips under 3 doorways. 2 lead to vinyl flooring in the hallway, 1 leads to tiles in the bathroom
-Cut and install an edge piece of hardwood to lie against sliding doors (currently there is an approx. 1" gap between the last strip of wood and the doors, exposing the concrete flooring). The sliding doors run for approx 4'.
It's a fairly easy job, definitely can be completed in 1 day, but after our bad experience it is important for us to have it done properly.

Hi there!
We are looking to have hardwood floors (potentially open to Engineered) installed on the second floor of our house, located near Downtown Toronto. The area is around 600 square feet, along with an 18 step staircase. We also have about 450 square feet of carpet that we would need removed, and 150 square feet of vinyl flooring. 2 small closet floors as well, and 3 radiators. We also have furniture that will need to be moved around. Looking for quotes for installation and carpet/vinyl removal, along with other necessary flooring costs. Flooring itself we will likely buy ourselves, but we are open to working with someone around procuring this as well. Ready to start in the next couple weeks or months, once we find the right team.
I look forward to hearing from you!

Need to get professional advise: if the job was done right before the baseboard is put in, 8.3 laminate floor/hallway, 300 sq ft, installed June 12. I feel the job was poor quality, free quote is preferred. I might have to take them to court, they lied to us saying their installers are very experienced.
I need someone to install engineered hardwood floor in a condo. I provide the underpad, hardwood, quarter around.
There is a small depression in the concrete of one of the bedrooms so the floor will probably need to be levelled.
The floor needs to be installed in two bedrooms plus the living room (total 520 sq ft).
There are 3 closets with sliding doors.
We would provide the hardwood flooring & trim. So I am looking for the cost to install only and the time required.

There is an existing pine sub floor in good condition.
We would like to meet with the contractor to do a walk through the project before it starts.
We would like to have the work completed in August '10.
Please indicate if there is a price difference based on the installation method: Glued, Floating or Nailed. Our preference is nailed, but we haven't decided yet.

Installation is in a 2 story low-rise condo building. The floors are down to the concrete and space will be completely empty for installation. Will need to follow condo renovation rules - see attached.

We are looking for a contractor to install new solid hardwood floors. Our house is located in the Danforth area, about 70 years old with original hardwood, but they are very squeaky. Very, very squeaky! Here are more details regarding the job.
- 1000sq ft of space (no stairs required). 190sq feet is an addition that currently has parquet flooring. The additions floor does not squeak, but we want to have the same floor throughout.
- We are looking for someone who can provide us with an alternative to pulling up all of our floors and installing new subfloors. We don't want to pull everything up if we don't have to. EIther way the floors need to be screwed down. Our main concern is to stop the squeaking.
- The basement is finished with drywall so no access from below
- We have 7 radiators that would need to be removed (unless they can be worked around.
- We have 10inch base boards which need to stay, but need 1/4 round installed
We want a contractor who is insured, has experience with older homes can provide references and will involve us in the process and stay within budget.
We are interested in having someone come by and give us a quote, but if you can also provide a rough estimate online based on similar situations would be helpful to set expectations.
This project is for replacement of all wooden floors in a condo, the total floor area is about 750 sq. ft. (see the attached floor plan).
The project includes these steps:
1. Removal of old engineered floors (floating, not glued) and quarter-round trim.
2. Disposal of old floor boards and debris.
3. Installation of sound barrier material (where it may be missing under the existing floors).
4. Installation of new engineered floors.
5. Re-installation of quarter-round trim.
6. Paining baseboards and trim.
7. During the projects, as needed, moving around some furniture.
8. Removal of garbage and debris.
Location of the condo: Bathurst and Lakeshore (at the Harbourfront).
I am planning to buy new engineered floors myself, so please quote labour only. If you have a good source or flooring materials, please recommend it and I will consider your supplier.
It is a condo building, so noisy work is allowed from 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday. Service elevator will be booked when needed for delivery of garbage removal. Contractor parking is available.
