This is an old cottage of about 600 square feet. It is divided into a hallway, 1 and a half bedrooms, a kitchen and an open living room/dining room. It has baseboard heating an a tiny powder room. There is a small addition at back of cottage that has a shower, hot water tank and baseboard, heaters.
I would like to see if it is worth tearing a few walls down, making it a big open concept. Also I'd like to put the shower and powder room into one bigger room. I'd like to also insulate the interior walls.

Have moved into a new house in Wasaga Beach and looking to finish the garage. Project would include:
- additional electrical panel (at least 2 30amp 220 volt)
- insulate ceiling
- remove garage door opener and tracking (perhaps extend the uprights so the door can still be raised a few inches)
- close in garage (not sure of best method and would like to discuss options)
- paint garage walls and ceiling (no fume paint)
- paint garage floor (waterproof?)
- build and install display cabinets across back (glass door style) - will need to level floor under cabinets
- install wall mounted large screen TV
- build a level platform in the room (approximately 8'7" x 18')
- possible additional lighting
Also build a storage box for the front porch.
Timeline is negotiable.
We are looking to lift our 550 sqft cottage.
There is a crawl space currently so we are just looking to lift it and put it back down on a footing and foundation as our cottage is only sitting on blocks right now. We have a contractor for footing and foundation will only need the cottage lifted and put back down on new footing and foundation.
We want to take down 1 1/2 walls to open up our living room. One wall is about 13' with french doors in the middle. The other wall has stairs on the opposite side so we just need a triangle cut in to it. We believe their is a header beam that goes all the way across the top, but not 100% sure.
Inside the wall, near the stairs, is central vac, electrical outlets and a cold air return vent.
I posted this a while ago but then things happened and I was unable to follow through, that won't happen a second time.
We currently have a large room in which there is a corner unit shower stall which we would like to replace with a larger, new tiled shower which will have a built in bench/seat. We would like to discuss whether the shower will have 2 tiled walls and one glass wall, or whether it will be constructed of 3 tiled walls. If it is 3 walls of tile we will need a light installed over the shower area. The shower will be approx. 5.5-6 feet long and be 6.5 feet high with a 3-3.5 foot opening with as low a threshold as possible. We will need 2 grab bars/hand rails installed in the shower as well as a built in soap/shampoo area. We would also like to move the laundry appliances (washer and dryer)into that area. This will mean building a bulkhead of cedar for the hot/cold water to be brought to the new laundry area, and we may need a new drain for the washer. We also want to have some cabinets built or installed on the wall over top the appliances. The job also includes replacing an existing exhaust fan, removing one existing baseboard heater and replacing another base board heater with a new one, and painting the entire room after the construction is finished. We're located at Wasaga Beach.
