I can’t say enough good things about the great work Jayson and his crew did on our home. The new roof looks amazing. They left our entire property extremely clean and came in on budget and on time. I found the entire crew to be kind and great at offering expertise and advice on important decisions that needed to be made.
As someone who works in the housing industry (realtor) I cross paths with contractors and builders on a daily basis, and the crew at Over and Above custom homes and renovations have become my go to recommendation for all my clients who need any work done on their homes.
We hired Jayson, from OAC, to complete our main floor renovation over the summer in 2019. We redid the flooring, gutted the bathroom, installed some tile, added electrical upgrades, dropped a wall, replaced the baseboards and repainted. We were happy with the subtrades he hired and they were great to work with. Although we are satisfied with the final result, it is only because half way through we had to step in and work with the sub trades ourselves. Jayson was difficult to get a hold of both for us and the trades. We had details of our job that were not completed (but included in the bill) and some overlap in billing. When it was time for us to move back in, the house was not cleaned from all the work that was done. It was unfortunate the way it played out, we were really excited to work with a local company but the whole experience was very frustrating.
Catherine, thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you are satisfied with the final result, although I had already confirmed this with you and your husband when you did not fulfill the final installment of payment in the range of $5,000. Your rationale for not paying your final balance was that in your opinion I charged too much , despite a signed contract, quote and review of the budget before and throughout the renovation.
I would also like to clarify your comment that you had to step in and work with the subtrades yourself . As the general contractor it is my job to find skilled and reliable subtrades that I trust and have built relationships with over my 12 years in the business. Trades need uninterrupted time and space to do their job safely and to the best of their abilities. I am always available to my trades via text, email and phone and will address issues based on priority. I visit all my job sites in person on a regular basis. I also make myself available to clients via the same avenues. It was unfortunately brought to my attention by my trusted trades that you were visiting frequently, interrupting work and attempting to go through them to get upgrades in your renovation not stipulated in the contract as well as requesting that some work be completed against building codes in order to reduce costs. I legally and ethically cannot compromise safety or building codes for cost and if I had the choice would not work with clients who would ask me to do so.
In regards, to the cleanliness of your home once the renovation was completed, as per our quote and contract you opted out of the offered cleaning service in order to reduce costs.
In summary we finished your project on time, under the budget, you are satisfied with the work, still have a balance owing and took the time during a world pandemic to write a negative review about a local company.
Thank you for your time. I wish you the best of luck with any future renovation project in your home.
Jayson and his team completed two total bathroom renovations in our 10-year old house. This included complete gutting of existing bathrooms down to the studs, moving plumbing to accomodate new design, building custom shower and shelving system, installation of new flooring, closing off one window and installing of another, installation of a stand-alone sauna, waterproofing rooms, installation of sub-floor, etc, etc.
I found Jayson to be very professional, but personal and approachable, and very open to suggestions and changes. I can be picky, but he handled my suggestions and questions with ease. His team, (especially Jeremy, and contractor drywaller Jason) were fantastic! I work from home a lot, and their work rarely impacted me. They were very curteous and good at what they do.
They stayed within budget, which was similar to other quotes we received, and allowed us the opportunity to do our own painting and drive the project the way we wanted to (for example, we purchased most of our own stuff and they installed, but when they sourced and supplied, we were very pleased with their options).
Would I hire them again? Yes. And that's saying a lot because we are the type to want to do our own renovations. We may want new flooring in the fall, and if we decide to contract out, Jayson and his team at Over & Above will be the people we will go to.
We are completely satisfied with the work done by Over and Above Custom. We are living in a new "showhome", and the quality of the work done by OAC in the basement was superior to the workmanship in the rest of the house. Jayson and his crew were always very courteous.
I only have wonderful things to say about Jayson and his team. I work in a business where I hear many accounts of unreliable contractors with bad results - so I was very hesitant to hire any contractor. I could not have been more pleased with the work - my expectations were exceeded on every level. Jayson worked with us to amend our plans, to pick our finishings and to make any changes along the way. He was always pleasant and approachable. He has a great team working with him, and I would (and have) recommend him to anyone.
We have done many large renovations and this was by far the smoothest reno we have ever done. We had Jayson and his crew gut and rebuild our master ensuite in our 90 year old home. He worked with us every step of the way, was easy to contact, always courteous and was on time. We have a tendency to be very particular with how things are done, but Jayson was always receptive and accomodating.
When problems came up during the reno he addressed them with us and gave us reasonable options. The workmanship was top notch and the finish of the bathroom is fantastic. We were extremely happy with his work and will use him in the future. We have referred him to close friends and he has treated them as well as he treated us. Finally, a contractor we can trust.
The level of knowledge and expertise shown from Over and Above Construction really put me at ease during our renovation project. Not only were they very capable in completing the project well and on time, they were able to help correct mistakes made from previous owners. We were very impressed with their work and will use them again in the future.
My renovation project was my main floor bathroom. It was a long awaited improvement and I am delighted with the end result! I had some ideas in my "dream file" and Jayson was able to help make these ideas a reality in the completed room. My budget was tight and yet the end result is gorgeous. I found Over and Above to be just that. I hope to work with them again.
Jayson Nickol and his crew faced a very difficult task when they replaced my roof. I had the roof replaced 10 years previously and the roofer had not done a good job so it leaked and rotted. It was a roof with little insulation, had a "membrane top" with no attic and when the crew removed the top, they discovered the beams, face boards etc were rotten. However they faced each challenge, kept me apprised of the work and cost. Jayson helped me get the Manitoba Hydro energy savings discount as well. The only difficulties that arose were the subcontractors for replacing eavestroughs, fascia etc who frustrated everyone. This is my second winter with my new roof, eavestrough system and my hydro bills have decreased, I don't panic when it rains and the house looks fabulous!
In the end, we received a product that was well-designed (with help from OAC) and extremely well-executed, with details that we didn't expect, but very much appreciated. Any changes to the original estimate were clearly discussed before the expenses were incurred, and there were no surprises. All workers were friendly, polite, hard-working and skillful. There was a clear feeling that all wanted to do an excellent job.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend OAC to other.
