Is 3 1/2 hole ok for 6x6 post for a fence

Some will tell you yes. However, in Southern Ontario the frost line is 4ft so anything you are putting into the ground needing frost protection must go 4ft or better.

Hello dear

3 1/2 feet dip is enough for 6x6 fence post .It have to be between 3 and 4 feet.

Hi Danny,

The depth of the post needs to be 4' deep. This is the frost line for southern Ontario. Otherwise if water happens to get under the post it will freeze and heave the post up.

I had the same question and after research and talking with other fence contractors 3 1/2 is plenty deep for southern Ontario. Here is my problem with the frost line which states that all of Ontario is 4ft deep frost line, so your telling me that the cold winters up in thunderbay and Sudbury are the same as down here, I don't think so. that's why 3 1/2 is more than adequate enough
