Just moved in to a semi in east Toronto that has old closets that I want to completely remove and get new ones installed. At this stage, I am looking at a rough cost to remove them ready for future installation of new customs. There is a couple of problems. The closet in the second bedroom has a section inside it that I think houses vents for the AC/Heating. It is covered by drywall. Not really wanting to have to relocate these at all so that can stay and I will build customs around this odd shape.
The closets are typical sliding glass mirror ones that have a small wall above the sliding mirror that extends to the ceiling. They don't run the length of a room, so there is one side wall that would also need to be knocked out. Engineer has informed us there is nothing load bearing about these walls and they ok to be knocked out.
Forgot to mention that the interior wall for the second bedroom closet that might house venting is just a straight sheet of drywall that is placed in on an angle. It might be that I want to remove this and just square off the section that section. It seems to be really odd to me how it was built.
Hi, thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately we do not work outside of Niagara.
Thanks again,
Scott
Hi Peter.
It would be really great if you could post a picture so we could get an idea of the wall you want to remove. So it is hard to give you an an accurate estimate. From what you describe, I would estimate $800-$1200 for wall removal, framing and installing any new drywall to cover the opened up wall.
It sounds like the only way to know what's behind the angled drywall is to remove it. If it's only following the angle of ductwork, you should be able to square it off.
Hope this info helps.
Thanks.
