There are three areas that I need insulation, the attic which I would like to have blown in cellulose, and the basement and the garage where I would like to have foam insulation. The house is about 33 years old. The attic has a very thin layer of fibre glass insulation and is about 500 sq ft. The basement is completely unfinished. It will need framing and insulation. The garage roof is finished and is below one of the bedroom. It does not have any insulation. It's about 75 sqft.
Need to take down drywall, 16'6'' by 7'6'', second floor bedroom, replace insulation, install water barrier, put back dry wall and tape (no painting needed). Preserve baseboard if possible.
There was a wasp nest that I removed. I patched the wall but room was quite cold during winter.
Newly purchased house needs a new roof. ~900 square feet. We are hoping for a long-term repair (metal shingles or other). We take possession of the house in mid-November, and would like to have the repairs done sometime before the late spring (weather dependent).
There is also a leak stemming from a poor seal beneath a balcony situated above the garage, which we would also like fixed at the same time.
Insulation between the house and the roof would need to be upgraded as well.
We are looking for a detailed/reliable contractor with experience inspecting roofs for proper insulation.
Our home is around 12 years old and we are looking for an honest/reliable opinion if the current insulation is sufficient or it needs to be added to.
Experienced/reliable contractors who offer free inspections are welcomed and will be contacted for this inspection and quote service.
Thank you.
- Age of house: 40 years old
- 4-level backsplit semi-detached
Would like to find a reputable, experienced contractor to soundproof basement so that noise from upper two floors is not transferred to lower two floors. I have looked into genie clip, blown-in cellulose fiber and green glue solutions
- Top level of basement has family room and bedroom with drywall ceilings to be soundproofed to prevent noise from being overheard from den and bedroom immediately above top level of basement. By speaking to soundproofing experts I have learned there may be two ways to deal with this:
- Blow-in cellulose through ceilings of basement family room and bedroom
- Shave off popcorn from ceiling and sandwich green glue between another layer of 5/8" thick drywall
- Do both
Also, bottom level of basement has ceiling to be soundproofed to prevent noise from being overheard from main level living room - ceiling in bottom level of basement has ceiling tiles. I have learned that there may be two ways to deal with this:
- Install genie clips and replace ceiling tiles with 5/8" thick drywall
- Use Roxul Safe N Sound Insulation above ceiling tiles
Lastly, 2nd level of house (bottom level of main level) is separated from 3rd level of house (top level of basement) by separator wall and lockable pocket door
- Would like to have Masonite Safe N Sound Door installed to replace pocket door
- Would like to consider having cellulose blown-in to the separator wall
- General layout relating to affected rooms & approximate dimensions:
1st level - Master bedroom over top level basement bedroom (14.21 ft x 10.83 ft)
1st level - 2nd bedroom over top level basement family room (11.48 ft x 9.78 ft)
2nd level - Living Room/Dining Room combo over 2nd level basement den (22 ft x 16 ft)
3rd level - Top level basement bedroom (14.11 ft x 9.94 ft)
3rd level - Top level basement family room (22.57 ft x 12.47 ft)
4th level - Bottom level basement rec room (15.42 ft x 9.35 ft)
Would like to move forward with effective, reasonably priced soundproofing solution by experience contractor. Suggestions and estimates from contractors who are experienced with soundproofing are welcome.
Would like to have soundproofing in place by no later than mid-February 2013.
