Hello.
We recently bought a duplex. We would like to renovate the basement. Currently it houses a large open space, a bathroom, utilities area, closed off room and boiler room ( with an oil furnace and tank).
We'd like to remove the oil system, shuffle some of the rooms around to add another bedroom, create an entertain space and in some areas lower the floor (there appears to be a raised floor in the main room).
We also have a things to check from the inspection, so there would potentially be more work in the future.
The house footprint is approx. 25' x 28'. I want to use the basement for additional bedroom, a bathroom with shower, a playroom, a laundry room as well as storage.
Four windows (approx. 30" x 18") and an exit door (30" wide) require replacement. The current electric forced air system for the groundfloor and basement will be removed and both floors will be heated by baseboards, which should be included in the price. The electrical panel has the capacity to handle the new heating system.
Please provide an online estimate and time frame for the work. An accurate quote can also be arrange after the initial estimate.
Thank you,
Sue
The basement measures 35 x 25 x 8
It is three-quarters bare and one-quarter renovated which has to be removed. The bathroom also has to be taken down and renovated.
I am looking for an open concept redoing the floor and walls with the possibility of adding a room later on.
I also would like to have an idea how much it would cost to add a separate front door exit with the possibility of converting the basement in a separate apartment.
I attached a sketch of the basement layout and a picture of a basement layout I would like with the ceiling not closed up.
Thanks,
Tony
We have a poorly finished rear basement section which is not well insulated. There is also a stairwell leading out of the basement up to the second floor which is in bad shape. During the summer, flies can get in from outside and get trapped there. We would like to have the entire section finished properly so that it is insulated and flies don't get in anymore.
To redesign our basement of approx. 625 sqft into a two bedrooms micro-apartment.
To add a bathroom with standing shower, a kitchenette, and laundry space.
Our new home was built in 1910, the basement has stone walls, wood ceiling beams, one large window and one small, and a back door for separate entrance.
We need a contractor who can complete the project in the month of July 2019.
Looking for a simple, clean, bright finish; intelligent usage of space including hidden appliances for the kitchen and ample storage.
I live in a old duplex, and I want to get the basement stairs done, they are old and squeaking, the ceiling is very low and the Headroom by the stairs is low so we need to duck towards the bottom of the stairs, but I think a beam is there so I dont think that part can be fixed, so I think my only choice is to replace the treads and risers to new ones, was wondering how much a job like this would cost because I need to get it done, I think its about 10 stairs,
I am looking to renovate my bathroom, the basement and front garden of my triplex in the plateau. More specifically, for the basement/crawl space, it would be to remove the dirt and lay down some type of protective barrier to prevent moisture and mold. For the front garden, it would be to remove the current structure and replacing with a very simple hedge. For the bathroom, it would be a complete remodel (remove current shower, and fixtures, retile, etc.
Hard to explain exactly what we want on here, obviously easier over the phone or by visit (although we haven’t moved in yet). Kitchen - minor to moderate changes (change location of fridge, combine two pantries into one, possibly change cupboards and island). Bathroom - major changes (there is currently a sauna in the bathroom that we want to remove to make the space bigger. Planning on having a shower and tub separate). Basement - major renovation (currently basement space, which has it’s own entrance, is being used as storage. We want to turn it into a bachelor apartment, a 2 1/2, and would be starting from scratch).
We're also interested in building a terrace out the back, but with the price of timber at the moment, we think we'll leave that for next year.
We can send through some rough sketchs we've done. We've bought the place, but we don't move in until July 1st, which we know makes things a little tricky.
basement has humidity, crackes in wall, needs sub pump in basement , possibly water accumulation under foundation, some damage visible on interior wall. 1950's duplex in montreal. needs updated electrical, currently uses gas and hydro for heating, will have to update heating to electiral only. goal is to make a legal basement apartment. possbiltiy to update both upstairs and downstairs units as well, hardwood under floating floors on both units, kitchens and bathrooms.
i am looking for an english speaking contractor, so that i can communicate my needs and concerns during the renovation. someone who is qualified, can provide a written contract with a warrenty. the general contractor will be responsible for the permits and any subcontractors that the site will require and that all contractors and sub contractors are fully liscensed.
Our house was built in 1888, and sags 2" at the central stair. We would like to add a new column under the stair to keep it from sagging further. We are excavating 22" deeper than the 81" existing height, for an area which is 24" from the existing exterior stone foundations. The door to the exterior is 32"x77". There is no urgency for the project, but done in the spring, it would be easier to do. A structural engineer is presently doing his plans. Wood columns will be replace by steel on concrete footings. Wood beams will be reinforced by steel plates on both sides which are accessible. There is a lane beside the house.
We would like to finish the basement of our duplex. There is a washroom and a bedroom done however there is no kitchen. We would like to add a kitchen and need to change the flooring as well and ceiling.
Please give us a free estimate.

Home in st. leonard (montreal east)....steady water leak from under one wall in cold room, it seems to be coming from the corridor where a heating return pipe is buried under the cement floor. During the winter months, this part of the corridor always felt warm under our feet. Need to cut into corridor floor to get to pipe.
I have two wood load bearing posts in my basement that need replacing before I move into the house (May 2013). My inspector informed me that the posts need to be replaced with steel jacks. He said he has recently replaced a couple of them at his house and that it was not a job that was difficult, nor did it take a long time, but it does require a specialist.
I am looking for structural engineer or an insured and registered contractor, who can guarantee the work and who has done this type of work in the past to replace the 2 beams in either April or May 2013.
I need to (mostly) clear my basement so that a contractor (contract already signed) can repair the foundations. The main task are:
- Take down "homemade" shelving (2 x 4's nailed to beams) and heavy wood workbench (with drawers, etc.)
- Take down drywall in a few places
- Disconnect and move washer and dryer
Foundation work is scheduled for June 9-11, so this work must be done before.
I have a some other jobs that could be given to the same company/worker after this one.
Had a water infiltration problem in a basement room and I need to rebuild the wall structures. I would like to remove the framed ceiling boxes in the ceiling if possible. The ceiling boxes have many electrical wires going through, so the ceiling might have to be lowered about an inch to allow the wires to be pushed up over the ceiling. Currently, the ceiling drywall it screwed into furring strips on joists in the ceiling. The ceiling joists are supporting the floor above it.
