Unfortunately things did not work out at all for me.
Hired Matt and his crew to finish my basement, plan was to be paint ready so that I could prime and paint over the 2020 XMAS holidays.
Matt is friendly, accommodating and helped me with the final design, pricing was similar to others quotes I received but chose Matt as I thought he was (is) a nice guy.
Was disappointed that work started as evening shifts only as crew was still working full time jobs at other sites. Matt was by to inspect from time to time but crew mostly left to their own.
What first caught my attention was when crew added strapping over a heating vent (picture attached), soon afterwards noticed the long bulkhead was not straight followed by uneven drywall joints and gaps in drywall joints over a 1/4 inch apart.
Then the work crew stop showing up, no work Dec 31st to Jan 10th.
What was suppose to be paint ready for XMAS was only 1/3 boarded by Jan 10th.
Had a new contractor stop by and he could not believe what he saw, total redo of drywall and reconstruction of bulkhead. I think I got a reduction in price because new contract felt sorry for me.
I have started the tear down, my teenage sons who helped me bring down the original drywall boards were not pleased about bringing up the tear down, at least the drywall was now in smaller pieces.
It will take 3 X separate garbage days to dispose of their work.
I do not feel I was ever deceived or lied to, they just simply could not get the job done, Matt's crew did not know what they were doing, always thought Matt would of been more present to assist in the work.
I am out the money (~ $2,000) for the new contractor to fix Matt's work and 30 more sheets of drywall.
Some cool pictures attached.
Matt and his team did a great job. Changing my dock was tricky, and a few dock builders refused to take on the work. Matt and his team toke on the challenge with enthusiasm. They worked quickly and stayed within the quoted price.
I hired Matt sounded good,he was ,nice we spoke about many things I was needing.first day started late because wrong boards came from store. All of the .work was done ,well and we agreed to a lip on the front of the deck. The skirt boards were packed with the deckboards and were accidentally used as decking in the front top, only ten pieces and had to be replaced for right boards.I was told nailgun nails were needed for the deck and I sent him to the store to get some,he spent 80.00 on 5000 nails for his nailgun.all ok but there was not 5000 nails used on my 35 ft ground level deck that had a box of screws that were left here and used on my deck.Skirtboards boards were not used at first so 105 dollars couldnt be returned.then one of the workers who was on the phone almost as much as he worked and left the youngest guy to do the work and when I brought it upI was told they did me a favor by using wood from the old deck with nails in it as braces for the deck and saved money so wasting new wood shouldnt matter..Then even if Matt was doing me a favor ,we spoke about moving heavy curbstones to the corner of the house, there was an understanding I thought.then I was told they were spending time they didnt have to, on those curbs being moved 10 ft.then when they started the deckboards they asked me about the skirtboards being used on the outer edge to finish deckI said ok but asked about the lip I wanted and was agreed to the day before with Matt, well they said there would be none if the skirtboards were used so I said no I wanted a nice finish at the front of the deck
Today it rained off and on there was a discussion about the situation and when they left I checked everything the store got items and I asked counter manager about compressor nails and was told no way 5000 nails was necessary. They were also not left at the house since I paid for them.as I was told about in the contract which says all materials paid for by me will be left at the house. When I explained it to matt ,hes not so nice.I have used many contractors who seem to think that leftover materials can just be taken without asking the owner. Its happened for floors and xl large cans of ceiling and wall primer and paint .I dont get it .I wish the attitude and admitting your mistake were as good as their work is because they could be fantastic.
Despite weather delays and a few minor materials complications, the project was completed ahead of schedule and below budget. Unforeseen complications are common in projects, how they are handled demonstrates knowledge and experience. Glad we could help and fulfill our clients requests and needs.
We hired Matt and his crew to build us a backyard deck and install a hard top gazebo on it. Matt's price was considerably lower than the competition so we decided to go with him. Matt was always available when we had questions and communicated well with us. He and his team are extremely hard workers and a pleasure to deal with. We are so pleased with our new deck and gazebo and I wouldn't hesitate to use him again or refer family and friends to him. Thanks Matt!
I would like to thank Matt Fillipoff for a job well done! I hired Matt to renovate my 48 foot porch. I was most impressed with Matt's work ethic, and commitment to finishing the project on time. Throughout the job, Matt demonstrated a strong knowledge of his craft, and a commitment to staying within the quoted budget. His honesty and his desire to produce quality work were above reproach. The results exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend Matt Fillipoff for any job, large or small.
