Basement systems Saskatchewan Review . August 24 2016
Based on my experience with Basement Systems Saskatchewan Inc. (BSS), the following happened to me: It's my understanding of the contract to purchase I entered into that I was supposed to receive the material that I would need to fix the water problems in my basement; however, I don't believe that I did receive fair treatment. Based on what happened to me, you might want to double-check before you go ahead and engage this company to do business with you. Be aware of what can happen. This is what happened to me:
Initially I thought that basement systems was my best option for my water damaged basement. I believe it probably would have been if it was installed in someone else's basement. The products seem to be of good quality.
The owner of Basement Systems Saskatchewan Inc. came to my home to assess, recommend what material to purchase and estimate cost. At this point I told her that the footing appeared to be un-level, I was told that it was incredibly unlikely as she has never seen that before and that I was most likely wrong. (The footing has to be fairly level for the system to work) This is where I took her "professional" opinion into consideration. Well after buying thousands of dollars of material it turns out that my footing was un-level. Since I was told that this was not likely possible by the owner of BSS I asked her to come and advise me on how to proceed. On a few occasions she came over to advise, which I appreciated. She recommended that I "cut" my footing around my perimeter to make it level. This would mean cutting minimum 3" off of the highest side of my footing and compromising the integrity of the footing that holds my walls up.
This was not an option for me and I had to figure out a different way to waterproof my basement.
This is where my experience with basement systems staff got extremely unpleasing.
It was apparent to me that she didn’t appreciate that I didn't listen to their recommendation and wanted to return the unused material that I purchased and could not use due to inaccurate advice prior to purchasing. I was given indication that they didn't have the money to be able to refund me.
After very uncomfortable, lengthy conversations with the owner I was told that they would take the return with a modest 20% restocking fee. But when it came to actually doing the return, she became unresponsive and didn’t show up to follow through with what we agreed on. I was so exhausted from our dealings and was in the midst of having our first child that I gave up.
Therefore 3 years (and 2 children) later I have a couple thousand dollars of unused, in the box, material in my garage that I do not know what to do with.
I am extremely dissatisfied! The only reason for posting this review is because I would like to share my experience with others and I believe I have the right to.
I regret getting into a business transaction with Basement Systems Saskatchewan Inc.
Update: Aug 25th 2016
After posting a review and informing her that I was going to be honest about my dealings with them on the internet. She decided to come over today. I thought she wanted to fulfill her side of our previous agreement and make it right but instead it looked like she was trying to frame me for extortion.(Wanted me to sign a document she made up and give me an arbitrary $2000) After a lot of getting nowhere, I told her that I don’t want her money and asked her to leave. She said “I will see you in court.” It sounds like she is trying to bully me into not speaking my truth. I believe some people call it ” strategic lawsuit against public participation”
We regret this individual is the 1st customer, in 11 yrs. of business, who writes a bad review for our company. Although much of the content is NOT factual, IE; he contacted us to buy materials almost 4 yrs. ago, at no time was there ever any contract to do service or work, and his footings were damaged unlevel by his inexperienced jackhammering; we still made an attempt to try to satisfy this customer. This individual refused to accept $2000.00, saying that he knew Basement Systems Saskatchewan had more money because I personally "have a Spyder motorbike", and then he DEMANDED MORE MONEY because "the US dollar is higher now" than it was when he purchased the materials. This behavior prompted us to contact the RCMP to what resembled extortion. THE RCMP ADVISED US TO "PAY THIS INDIVIDUAL NO MONEY!" AND "CUT ALL COMMUNICATIONS" WITH THIS INDIVIDUAL. We are following their advice.
We trust that smart-minded individuals will determine this review invalid and not let it enter their judgement of our BBB award winning business. Thank you.
