Awful. Initial work was good, but then got sloppy. Broke an outside tap with equipment and they didn't want to fix it, made a mess in the backyard and didn't finish off the foundation membrane with flashing at the top!
Despite the reasons he gave to not complete the work, he did come to view as an estimate and quote, and if he was limited in his work area, he could have said in the beginning that he would not be able to complete the work without breaking anything. It was more than a month I had pursued contractor for tap repairs (which I kept hearing excuses)
"We did our best the level it out and clean it up. The customer even agreed he would " just throw some seed down " and everything was fine. We even returned to rake and do some leveling ."
Leveling was not done properly (will attach pictures when I get the chance). I did agree to seeding it, but note, that was not in the complaint.
" It was never a matter of not wanting to make this customer happy, its simply the way he chose to go about resolving it , knowing the circumstances , knowing we did 2000.00 + in free work and yet still just jumps the gun to run me down everywhere he can cause the inspector told him a year later I should have fastened it. "
I discussed this with the contractor, and was made promises that were never kept, or was beyond timely. It cost us tenants at that time. He offered to do the extra work, but the extra work is no good if it's not done right. I do not work masonry, so when the home was inspected before sale, it was picked up as a major item. I brought this up to the contractor's attention as the warranty for the work done is within the 5 year time period.
Unfortunately this is another case of a customer being unreasonable and wanting to use this page to make me look bad.
1) Outside tap - The neighbours fence ( which we were not allowed to touch at all) and the house have a space of approx. 5' 6" . The mini excavator we used was approx. 5'leaving us 3" on each side of the machine of clearence. Yes the tap was grazed and broke off. We tried to address it and fix it , but the tap has no shut off valve and is drywalled in a bulkhead. Something we needed to address about a month after Mr. Mclafertys project , I fell 21' from scaffold near bout breaking both my arms at the elbows. I informed the customer I was down and out at that time. Never heard a thing until almost a year later when he emailed me about it , posting here and the BBB at the same time before even trying to resolve it.
2) The backyard - we excavated approx. 130-150ft at 6ft depth 3ft wide . with minimal space to work with the equipment and nowhere to put all the excavated earth,we did our best to ensure everything was tidy. The customer was surprised when the backyard was not exactly how it looked before excavation.
We did our best the level it out and clean it up. The customer even agreed he would " just throw some seed down " and everything was fine. We even returned to rake and do some leveling .
3) Membrane - Given the 2' 6" over hang of the roof, I used my own judgement and assumed backfilling and the tar product behind membrane would be fine. Which it is , as we parge 2 coats , tar and use a poly membrane to waterproof which is basically three waterproofing systems in 1. A inspector went to the property just recently and pointed out by code I should have fastened the top , which is fine.
I would like to add that I also did 15ft of the foundation at no extra cost and did our best to address everything before the fall I had which has basically ruined my life since. It was never a matter of not wanting to make this customer happy, its simply the way he chose to go about resolving it , knowing the circumstances , knowing we did 2000.00 + in free work and yet still just jumps the gun to run me down everywhere he can cause the inspector told him a year later I should have fastened it.
Since this I have tried to reason with the customer , exchanged some rude comments and have told him I intend to do it as soon as I am back to work.
Bottom line, I will install fasteners and do whatever it is the customer wants to put this in the past.
Phil and his crew came out last spring and not only did an excellent job on repairing the foundation (and kept us posted of each step along the way) but they did a good job on our stone in the front of the house. We would definitely hire them again!
