Eric did a bunch of reno work for me, including framing (some structural), window installation, drywall (lots, some tricky), tiling, electrical, plumbing (a custom shower). We also had him build a deck about 6 months after the reno work finished
Overall we are very pleased and would not hesitate to work with Eric again. For all the work he did for me,.only one issue ever cropped: up for unknown reasons, some exterior stucco (which passed inspection) failed over the winter. Eric replaced it for very fair terms.
Hired Eric to finish my 5x7 bathroom. What a mistake!! Initially quoted $3500 to redo the floor and wall tiles, replace some drywall and put in new faucets. I also asked for him to install a toilet after the initial estimate. The bathroom ended up costing over $9000 to redo because he did tasks I did not ask for him to do - eg. changing wall light to ceiling light, ripped out vanity, etc.
For $9000, the work he did was poor. He scratched the bathtub requiring me to purchase and install a new one. The tiles are completely uneven and not level with the wall. They are also covered in grout in spots and he installed chipped tiles. The floor tile is missing grout in spots, but he somehow was able to put grout on the hallway walls requiring me to sand and repaint those walls as well.
He made multiple holes in my wall and just left them for me to fix. The mud for the drywall was not properly applied, smoothed or sanded. I had to remud the walls and sand before I painted them.
The vanity was installed with a large gap between the vanity and the wall nor was it centred on the wall. He also cut a large hole in the vanity so I cannot even move the vanity to make it flat against the wall or centre.
When requested to fix the problems, he refused. He did offer to put a lien on my house though.
What amazing craftsmanship! I absolutely love my custom tile shower. My bathroom is definitely a place I'm now proud of! Thank you so much for your input and design Eric. I'll definitely be calling you again for future projects. Superb work done in a timely fashion!
Eric is a multi-talented and very pleasant man who can turn a highly skilled hand to a variety of jobs. Like most people, we've had bad experiences with contractors we've found in telephone books or online, but we were extremely fortunate to find Eric about eight years ago. Since then he's done a variety of jobs for us, ranging from the large (kitchen renovation) to the small (too numerous to mention), and every one has been done to a level beyond our satisfaction. He is his own harshest critic, and he once insisted on re-doing something that - to my eye - didn't need re-doing. He's also very cost-conscious, and knows where to find good prices. The only (very mild) criticism I'd make is that he has become very popular and can have numerous job "on the go" at the same time, which can sometimes cause the project timeline to stretch a little. (But, having said that, when he makes commitments he sees them through.)
The service that Eric provided was outstanding. He showed up for work every day he said he would, he worked on whatever project required completing and stuck to his plan. I changed several projects as we progressed, Eric provided professional ideas and encouraged creativity, and the finished project is beautiful. Eric will be my first choice for my next project. Thanks Eric!
We hired Eric on two different occasions. He was an absolute pleasure to deal with: polite, honest, provided very good advice on which products to use as well as good ideas and suggestions pertaining to our projects. Our first project was left unfinished by previous contractor and for some reason it was hard to find a good contractor who would come in and pick up from where it was left. The situation was becoming a nuisance. Finally one day I went on BBB site to look for a contractor. And there it was Finishing The Unfinished. That was exactly what I was looking for - for someone to come and finish the job. I made a phone call and scheduled an appointment. Eric was prompt and reasonable with his estimate. The job was done with minimum disruption to our life. We were very pleased.
So when the next project came along I knew who to call right away. Eric was hired to renovate our condo from top to bottom. He did an outstanding job. Some of my friends saw it and hired Eric for their renos as well right after. Not only he did a great job but as well he often went with me to pick out and deliver the materials. He spent whole day with me at Home Depot, another whole day at Ikea. Eric helped us to unload and carry the materials and appliances that he as well helped us to choose. He was always available by phone or text whenever I needed advice on where and what supplies to buy. I cannot tell you how much we've appreciate it. Eric's wiliness to help and accommodate turned renovations into pleasant event. Eric is knowledgeable, skillful and stands by his work. I have and would recommend him to my friends, relatives and anybody who wants their renos to run smoothly and stress free. Absolutely wonderful person who takes a great pride in his work.
We initially had Eric in to fix a very bad job that someone else had done buidling a shower in our upstairs bathroom. We were impressed with the quick demo & cleanup that he managed. He & his son ripped out all the tile right down to the studs in no time, got rid of the garbage and cleaned it up so we could continue using the bathroom. He spent alot of time making sure the walls & floor of the shower were repaired properly before installing the fibreglass stall & replacing the glass doors. It was a big job but it was done beautifully and quickly. He gets going early & puts in a full days work. Everything was accomplished in a timely manner and very fair cost. We were in fact so pleased thiat we then hired Eric to completely renovate our downstairs bathroom. He has turned a 6x6 crappy litttle toilet room into a beautiful huge bathroom, soaker tub & all. The job he did in the bathroom & hallway downstairs is awesome. He does great drywall work that is second to none. We've been very happy with all of the work from start to finish that Eric has done for us and he'll be the first person we'lll call for our next reno job.
Hired this company for a complete, standard basement development for my 2 year old house. The contractor came out and spent some time with me going over my development plan. A courteous and accommodating enough fellow for sure. Was a little different than other contractors with his pricing - he quotes only labor. Also is paid in stages according to work completed. The homeowner furnishes the supplies and materials. He was about a week late in starting - no problem. He starts early and put in a solid days work - completing the first stage (framing) in about 2 days. He then started on the electrical, which took him three days. At this point ,I was satisfied with the quickness at which he completed tasks. I don't know much about electrical so I decided to have his electrical work looked at by a power systems technician acquaintance who couldn't believe the poor quality of the work. Where do I start...there were not enough outlets, left only 2-3 inches of wire out of the box, didn't use gaskets but for some reason put Tuck tape around the box to give the illusion of a sealed gasket. Had overloaded multiple switch boxes with too many wires, wrong staple sizes, one staple had 3 wires under it. For some reason had a nasty junction box in the ceiling feeding all the circuits in the basement. Used the wrong outlet boxes for the metal stud exterior walls - instead of using the proper box, he screwed a length of 2X4 to the stud and then attached a standard box used for wood. The serious concern was found when I peeled up the vapor barrier and insulation on the exterior walls (metal studs) and found that instead of running armored cable or regular cable and using grommets, he had actually taped the wire the back of the metal studs with electrician tape. In one fell swoop, this guy basically could have electrified my exterior walls. Completely unacceptable to say the least and when I confronted him, he offered an apology and was going to fix it. Absolutely not, I didn't trust him to place my family's safety in his inept hands. At this point, I told him that he would not be wiring my house and I hired a journeyman electrician who had to come in and rip out everything he did and redo it all. The electrician was appalled at the haphazard attempt at wiring. At least there are no more junction boxes, overloaded switch boxes or wire taped to back of studs. Now, I can rest easy that my house isn't going to burn down or electrocute somebody. After this incident, I decided to really check his previous work - his framing. I got my level and square and not surprisingly found places on some walls where the studs were out almost 1 inch horizontally with exposed jack posts - try to drywall around that and have it look nice! The door header height didn't allow for the 1/2 inch of floor, plus underlay and pre-hung door height. For some reason, when he frames a wall, he attaches the top and bottom plate, then toe-screws the studs to the plates. Resulting in out of square studs and gaps between the stud and the plate. I then decided it was time to part ways with Mr. Turner and released him from the job. Miraculously, I found someone out there who is now in the process of fixing the framing errors. There is a real problem with the quality of workmanship Mr. Turner is producing, although he claims "all work is completed to Alberta building code." I think he must have a different code than everyone else. I would not feel good about paying him for any service (although sadly I had already paid for the framing) and he, beyond the shadow of doubt, should not be touching any electrical projects. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen people. You have been warned.
Trying to complete such a large electrical job was certainly not a wise decision. As some may have noticed Electrical has been removed from my profile. Losing three days worth of mine and an employees time will certainly not equal the stress I brought on his family. Hopefully, Shane will forgive the bad start. Had he asked me to correct any problem with my workmanship, I would have gladly obliged.
