Kal did an excellent job in completely renovating our kitchen. He has great attention to detail to ensure the job is done right, and the final product looks exceptional. Kal is courteous, honest, easy to get along with, and treats you and your house with respect (he also made great friends with our dogs). Kal's work and work ethic is second to none and we look forward to hiring him again when we tackle our bathroom.
Kal started off with my bathroom renovation on a positive. He gave me a decent quote, and seemed fairly organized. However, the project ended up continuing past the proposed date. Instead of completing my project, he started another, with the idea that he would continue after each work day on my project. Needless to say this did not happen, and the project ended up not getting completed by this company. I understand that there were unexpected delays with plumbing and electrical, but did not expect I'm tired to be an excuse. I personally completed the painting myself after they had painted my ceiling the wrong colour, and ended up calling a junk removal service to get rid of the debris left in my back yard. To top it off, I got the key back for my back door, but not my front door. At, present would recommend a more professional company for next renovation. In responce to Kal's posting. I did choose tile from ames tile, and did inform him if ordered by a specific date, these tiles could be in early for project completion, after this date, there was on guarantee on when the tile was to be in. He did need to place the order by a specific date, and decided not to, so tile was late. This occured soley because Kal did not order the tile in time. The bathroom was to be completely done, with the exception of the tile at the 4 week mark, it was not. I did not ask for a discount in the tile, thiswas a business decision that he decided to do, would have gladly paid quoted price of tile. The project dragged on for nearly 7 weeks, with him not showing up for the majority of the last 2 weeks despite me phoning him repeadily and getting little responce. When he finally did show up, his responce for not comming sooner was " I was tired". Communication was almost non existant with notes being left on my kitchen table. I do have a cell phone, that I will respond to and find the idea of notes on the kitchen table to be quite odd. He did have my email address as well, so communication should not have been a problem. I felt he went ahead with decisions that I would have liked to be apart of if I was not physicially in the house when the project was being completed. Yes, the ceiling was a touch up job, regardless of who painted over what with which paint. Kal agreed to touch up the ceiling where damage was done due to construction. Sadly, this was not a priority for him, and this is what took the majority of 2 weeks to complete. They had used my paint in the past for touch up in the hallway, and I did assure them that I did have ceiling paint. Despite this, they did not ask me where I kept my paint, and instead painted with paint from the old homeowners, the accused me of lying and not having any ceiling paint on the property. I am saddened that despite multiple phone calls to Kal, and despite multiple appointment dates, which I had taken time out of my schedule, he did not show up. So in the end, I was both frustrated and angry and completed the project myself. I have never asked this company or any of its employees to take away my personal garbage. I am more than capable of breaking down a box and disposing of it. This is not a difficult task and one that I have done in the past. However, I did expect the construction debris consisting of drywall, old broken toilet, boxes from instillation, as well as other debris, and the cigarette butts to be cleaned up. Sadly, this as well was not a priority. I did not ask for any of these "free" services. My downstairs bathroom actually looked better before Kal came to the property. There is now a 3 inch gap between the flooring and the toilet, which looks absolutely terrible. I asked him about the mirror in the bedroom when he originally came for a quote, this was one of the things I had originally requested to have done. I was looking for an honest, knowlledgable, compotent professional that I would easily be able to work with on this bathroom renovation. I am disapointed that an individual who claims to call themselves a "professional" has now resorted to internet bullying and name calling (two faced attitude) on a site designed for customer comments and feedback. This is not the responce I would hope a "trusted" and "professional" contractor would display to a previous client. Needless to say I am disapointed that on a web site that welcomes customer feedback, one cannot do so without intensive retaliation from this contractor (at least verbally on the internet). If this contractor is intolerant of negative (or even neutral) critisim then it leads me to question why they have chosen to advertise with a company that welcomes customer feedback.
The comments presented by Laura are extremely unfair and inaccurate. Point by point as to going past the date the following work was added, replace bathroom door including reframing to the standard height, adding a GFCI outlet for a jetted tub, increasing the ceiling closet height and installing a drop in tub into an alcove. As to starting another job we were waiting for the wall tile that she ordered to come in and when it arrived I worked Sat. and Sun. to complete the tiling and window trim. The work she says that was not completed by me was a ceiling touchup that was caused by the removal of tape, Laura had painted latex paint over oil and it peeled when taking down the plastic protection. We painted it 2 coats with what we thought was color changing ceiling paint but was actually tinted pink. I did come back to repaint but could not find the paint which was not stored with the other 10 cans she had (we are talking about a 3 foot by 4 inch patch). Lastly the garbage removal was an error in judgement as Laura had not complained to me I intended to haul it away on my next visit though half the debris was from a patio set she had purchased but nstead of calling me she chose to call a hauling company to take it away. Please note in addition to the contracred work I changed her basement toilet with the old upstairs toilet no charge even though I discovered the previous owner had poured a new concrete floor without removing the toilet which meant I had to break the base of the toilet, chip the concrete and relevel before installing the toilet NO CHARGE. I also hung her bedroom mirror no charge.
Kal provided a comprehensive estimate and included everything we asked for. His estimate included a flow chart with dates.
All his work was of the highest quality and there was no "cutting corners" in fact I called him a regular Mike Holmes . Kal is a courteous and calm contractor who does everthing asked for in a timely manner and we will not hesitate to have him do future work for us and will recommend him to our friends.
