We hired Kurt to complete a basement renovation. My husband had done all of the demolition work so Kurt's job entailed installing a supporting beam and footing, move some heat vents and central vac, frame and drywall and essentially get our basement paint ready. The experience started off very positive, the guys were on time and seemed to be progressing very quickly with the work.
Near the end of the project we noticed the bulk head that they framed around our duct work was completely crooked and not square in several areas. We phoned Kurt and his immediate reaction was to blame our house for the issue instead of first reviewing the problem to see why it was so off. The next morning he came to our house and tried to tell me several times that it was level - at this point I showed him how to use the level and that the framing was clearly off by over an inch in many areas of the bulk head. After convincing him that it was his issue he finally agreed to fix it. He bought the materials needed that day and straightened everything out before they left which was nice to see.
That appeared to be the end of quality control for Kurt. I don't know if us pointing out his mistake bothered him or if they just aren't detail oriented guys but things just went down hill. One of the stipulations of our contract was to have the area made paint ready so we could just prime and paint when they left. We had to point out several missed areas that were not patched on many occasions. Kurt assured us that all details would be tended to so I left him and his partner to finish the job.
Once he told us the job was finished he said he would come back AFTER we've painted to patch any missed spots that may come out during the painting process as sand came off the walls which seemed reasonable to me. That tells me they've inspected the area and they're aren't any visible imperfections. He left and we went downstairs to inspect the area. There was piles of dust left everywhere, areas that where the mud was still thick and not sanded properly, globs of mud on two windows, a significant amount of holes missed (which at one point had mud on them that was completely sanded off so they saw their mistake and left it) and our central vac which he moved was not hooked up properly. My husband spent hours cleaning up after them and fixing our central vac as he wouldn't come back to our house for 3 days and to be honest we were finished with having to remind him how to do his job.
Overall the experience was mediocre. For the amount we spent I expected much higher quality and craftsmanship. I understand a few small oversights but the amount of mistakes and things missed was much too high for me.
We will not recommend or use Kraftwerk Home Improvements again.
