We hired Mar-Jess Construction to build our brand new home on an infill lot. They were very knowledgable and helpful throughout the entire process, including help with the plans, permits and everything needed before starting the project. Throughout they always kept in contact and were there whenever we had any questions.

The home turned out beautiful, we are very happy and would definitely consider Mar-Jess Construction in the future.

From start to finish, Mar-Jess were complete professionals. Everyone on their crew was unfailingly polite, and they always listened to and addressed any concerns/thoughts we had.

They gave us some ideas that we would never have thought of (eg., building a small patio deck) that we agreed to, but they never pressured us in the slightest when we weren't interested in one of their particular suggestions/ideas. As you can see in the attached photo, the garage and fencing is fantastic. Also, I look forward to having a beer on the deck once summer returns!

We're extremely happy with the final result and will definitely call them again for future renos in and around our home.

On a side note, here's a good example of their trustworthiness. During the digging process for the garage, part of our backyard (not where anything was being constructed) got inadvertently chewed up. Instead of leaving us with a more-or-less ruined, grassless portion of backyard, Mar-Jess made sure that - after all the main jobs were finished - fresh sod and seed was laid down. True professionals!

Mar-Jess started and completed the job in a timely manner. Both spaces were done to my expectations. John is very nice and easy to work with. Work area was cleaned every day. I have done multiple renovations with this company and I have always been happy with the finished project.

It is with great pleasure that we submit this review for our basement renovation carried out by Mar-Jess Construction. From start to finish John and his crew were punctual (always called everyday to know when they would arrive and kept us informed as to the status of our reno), very polite, professional, and stayed within our budget.

These guys are awesome. I had teleposts that needed to be adjusted and some doors that needed plaining. John showed up and was very friendly and helpful. I will be calling him back again in the fall to do some other work.

I hired Marr-Jess Construction to "finish out" my double attached Garage. This work included insulation, drywall, carpentry, painting, lighting, garage door replacement, cabinet installation, and some electrical work. I chose to get a quote from them based on the favourable reviews on this site. John S. responded to my inquiry right away, and we met with him to discuss the scope. John had a detailed quote emailed to me within the week, and also provided a schedule that seemed very acceptable to us. As we live in Winnipeg, we understand that the construction season (for work in a garage) is quite limited, and that virtually all contractors like Marr-Jess are quite busy during the summer. When John discussed the schedule with us, he was very open and honest about sequencing the trades and coordinating their activities.

Throughout the process, John would text me to let me know what would be happening, so we could plan accordingly. This type of communication is extremely important as there are always issues or changes that need to be discussed. John was extremely professional about the way he handled the job, and we couldn't be happier with the results.

Value for the money is always important (I'm born and raised in Winnipeg) and we felt that Marr-Jess gave us a fair price for what we received.

All things considered, we feel that Marr-Jess did an excellent job, for a fair price, and we would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable and trustworthy renovation contractor. Our thanks to John S. for all his professionalism.

I hired Mar-Jess in August 2016 to renovate my laundry / furnace room and to replace the main galvanized water supply line with modern PEX. The work included framing, insulating, drywall installation and finishing, painting, plumbing to install a laundry tub and replace the old galvanized line, and installation of a new dryer vent.

My experience with John and his crew from Mar-Jess was all positive. The price was very reasonable. They ensured that I understood the building code requirements prior to finalizing any important decisions on the project. They completed the work as required. They did quality work on all stages of the project. Once they started they did the work in a timely manner. And, they kept the job site as clean as possible by using covers and room dividers. They did a final cleanup at the completion of the job.

Several things about my experience with Mar-Jess most impressed me. First, the concrete around the floor drain had been flaking for several years. Without asking, John fixed this concrete using quick set before they painted the floor. This fixed a problem that I had been having for some time with that area. Second, when they were finished the job, John left the cans of unused paint for me for future use. (Most contractors will not do that.) Finally, they were sensitive to any concerns that I had with the outcome of the job. In particular, the back door of the house was sticking after the work was completed due to all of the supplies that had been carried through it. John and his crew made sure that they adjusted the door to fix this before they left.

The only complaint I would have is that they were about a month late starting. I suspect that this issue, which was minor for me, was the result of bad weather on a previous job. Overall I was very happy with the work that Mar-Jess Construction did for me and would definitely recommend them for other homeowners.

My Mom moved into a nursing home and her house was outdated and in need of a reno. I contacted John at Mar-Jess and he came over right away to give me a quote on the upgrade. We needed new flooring, some paint, a bathroom total gut and redo. The quote was right in the ballpark I was thinking. John and his crew got to work on the project quickly. They are very professional and I never had any worries. They updated me often on the progress and about any decisions that need to be made. The work was excellent !! I am thinking of doing a couple more projects and would absolutely get John to do more work for me in the future.

Thanks to John and his staff with the exterior renovations to our business. John made sure he worked on weekends so he did not interrupt our daily operations. John was a great guy to deal with. He kept us informed, was on time and hired excellent trades people for us to deal with. When John gave us the quote on our home Reno he was the only one out of all the estimates we had gathered, to suggest spray foam insulation both inside the basement and outside, which is what our project needed the most. The work was well done, in a timely manner, and the price was good. John went above and beyond and made our Reno experience a good one. We will call Mar-Jess in the future, and we hope you will too.

Dealing with John at Mar-Jess was a great experience, he was quick with responding to calls and emails and gave honest answers and opinions.

The work done on my house consisted of installing a kitchen, finishing baseboards and trim, tile work in bathrooms, installing some doors and deck railings. All work was done professionally, on time and on budget - actually they did more than expected within the same budget.

Mar-Jess did an amazing job creating a new gravel drive-way. They were organized, clean, and professional. I am very pleased.

I am very pleased with the stairs--it isn't easy working in the unfinished basement of a 105 year old house--more like a dungeon--and getting said dungeon's stone wall to cooperate enough to accommodate something new, but John and Robert did a great job. Had a four season room built by MarJess in the summer of 2015. Pros: strong construction knowledge base, great communication skills, strong relationships with great quality subtrades and associates. John and Mario responded promptly to concerns and questions, and were good problem solvers. Work was high quality, and they take pride in what they do. would work with them again, and have no problem recommending them to others.

I hired Mar-Jess Construction as General Contractor to oversee and coordinate a Preserved Wood Foundation (PWF) repair of my home. The repair procedure was designed by Beach Rocke engineering. Mar-Jess was to follow repair procedures as detailed in the engineer's report.

Mar-Jess subcontracted exterior foundation services including excavation and waterproofing to Primal Contracting.

Mar-Jess handled all interior repairs including structural reinforcement, layout and design, drywall, painting and refinishing of living area. I hired electrical, plumbing,insulation and flooring contractors to facilitate repairs. (electrical and insulation were referrals of Mar-Jess)

They stayed true to the original quoted price and performed services in a timely manner all the while having to coordinate with numerous sub-trades throughout the process.

They were pleasant and professional and took pride in their work.

I would most certainly recommend them to someone requiring home renovation / repair services.

Marjess Construction completed the renovation within budget. Workmanship was excellent. Provided valuable information regarding initial plan and informed us when changes needed to be made. We were very happy with end product and we now have a beautiful cottage to show for it.

I recently had my home renovated by Marjess Construction, a fairly major undertaking. They finished my basement from a blank slate, and I also had my kitchen flooring replaced, drywall changed upstairs, along with windows, and exterior and interior doors. The work they did was very professional and the finished product looked outstanding. I found the prices to be fair, the workmanship professional and both workers easy to get along wih.
