Down payment given on a Sunday, more than I care to say. NOT EVEN 24 hours later I decided to google his name and came across this sight.
We then called him and said we changed our mind, only to hear him say that he already bought nails and such...really? This was on Sunday, and Monday at super he says he passed up some jobs because of us and said we would have to wait and see if he got booked to replace what he lost? Not even 24 hours?
So we are out $$, but reading these post it could have been a lot more! Amazed he has not been sued. Don't know how he sleeps at night taking people's hard earned money.
I trusted Mark when I first hired him but soon found that I had made a mistake. $1200.00 to level my deck.
$200.00 before the job got started. (Downpayment for labor)
$134.00 for the wood that I had to go pay for...he delived on top of his van....not professional.
$500.00 for 2 Postech
That would leave remainder $366.00 for labor.
He was here approx. 3 hours total and left and kept delaying coming back to a point where I just told him not to come back and I never heard from him to explain. Not bad....$566.00 for 3 hours labor.
I wish I have read the reviews on Mark before hiring and not pay him before job is complete......NOT GOOD! Left a mess and deck still not level.
I agree with the posted reviews that Mark is only out for the dollar and do not care about his customers. Great talker though...very convincing....Mark promised me a receipt for the remained paid but I never received it. He even took my leftover 6x6 wood that I never authorized. By me telling him not to come back is exactly what he wanted to hear...he is off now to take money from someone else.
Well I truly wish I had read these reviews before I hired Mark Garland. He not only was verbally abusive and yelled at me but he left me high and dry after more than half the work wasn't done and not done properly. Now I am left with a shower that I have to have someone come in and undo the damage that he has done and buy all the material that he ruined. He was very eager to get his money ($2000) and was never eager to come and do any work. So for maybe 15 hours of work, he has left me in a huge mess! He is a bully and a fraud! He loves to throw around that he has 37 years of experience and that he has worked on projects with Mike Holmes out west. Looks like from the other reviews on here that he has taken more than one of us to the bank and cashed in on people who put their trust in someone who promised to do a great job. PLEASE DON'T BE HAD BY THIS THIEF!
Had Mark and Donna do a custom deck for me. Was happy with finished product and service. Told me the dates he would be available and followed that up. I knew he was busy and he always stayed in contact with me if there was ever any change in times. Overall deck was what he promised and budget was as well.
I wish I had read the reviews before hiring Mark Garland.
Over the course of two weeks Mark showed up for work for a grand total of two half-days. Multiple delays were needed for a variety of reasons, some reasonable and but mostly not.
Mark loves to mention his 37 years experience and uses it to trump any questions you might "dare" to ask about his methods and practices. He does not do well at all when you ask him why he is doing something a certain way -- especially when he is doing something that doesn't meet the city bylaws. He was trying to get away with installing my posts at a depth of 36" when the bylaw calls for 48".
On the day Mark was supposed to install our fence posts he and his wife verbally attacked, cursed and swore at us before walking off the job after we had mistakenly place some wood materials in the wrong spot of the yard.
We purchase all materials, paid a $1500 deposit for labour, an $1800 installment, and are left with what you see in the picture.
Buyer beware.
He asked for half labour up front, which I paid. He came back and worked two half days. And to get him there for those two half days I had to call and text him multiple times. After being out over $2000 I had nothing done besides some post in the ground. I even bought the materials myself. He didn't show back up for nearly 1 month, at that time I had another contractor in finishing the work. He was upset and now attempting small claims court. DO NOT HIRE this contractor. As the other reviews are accurate as well to my knowledge.
I originally though I found the right guy for the job . Boys I wish I could rewind the tape .
Prepaid 50% down. Received half the job .
When I asked him to come back to complete . I was told I got my monies worth. Left all the garbage in my yard and baby barn half finished and even called the cops on me for calling him and asking him to come finish the job.
Had to have a real company come and not only finish the job but redo the whole roof as it was not even close to done right . The shingles were falling off before the new company even had a chance to replace them all.
Totally unacceptable and would beware
