The plumber's name is Martin Lazi. He broke things in my unit and refused to pay for it. Company (Plumber on Demand) is aware and refused to do anything.
Overchagred me for a job by 3 times. Replaced 2 valves for over a $1000. The job would cost less then half (which I found out later). Took advantage of someone without experience to con for money. Didn't even bother waiting for checks at the end, despite being asked to do so in advance. Wanted money upfront and claimed to be an "expert" providing services at a reasonable price. This "expert" couldn't even locate a shutoff valve right next to him!
Most infuriating of all, came in without wearing a mask during the height of Covid, even though it was gov't guideline to wear one.
The guy (Martin Lazi) is a predatory scam artist. Make sure you stay clear of plumber of demand and don't make the same mistake I made by trusting random people. Its people like this that give plumbers a bad name..
Ignore all of the positive Google reviews that are likely FAKE. Take a moment to check other review sites, and see that Plumber on Demand has 18 complaints filed against them on Better Business Bureau.
This company really takes advantage of people who don't have time to do more thorough research. Not sure why they show up first in google listings, but do yourself a favour and move on to the next company. My experience was very similar to complaints on BBB, where many spoke about having credit cards over-charged, being over-taxed, and having poor quality/unnecessary work done.
Over the phone this place says assessment is $80, but they don't mention HST ($90.4). They also refuse to give any ballpark estimate on total costs ahead of time. I figured this was somewhat understandable, but it became quite clear this ambiguity is intentional.
We had a small puncture in a pipe that I probably could have fixed myself, had I the tools/equipment. The plumber "John" walks in, and gives his assessment in literally 5 seconds. From all his feigned "hmms" and "ohhhs" I could immediately tell he was about unconvincingly exaggerate the cost and labour required to fix the problem. He tells me it will cost $540, and will be a "really tough/long job that requires lots of parts." FAST FORWARD: A different plumbing company completed the job well in 1.5 hours, and charged less than HALF that ($250).
Although I already knew Plumber on Demand was overcharging and being dishonest, I still wanted to confirm with a friend. "John" immediately starts pressuring me to make a decision, telling me he has another job to go to... because an extra 2 minutes was too much time to wait in addition to that realllly grueling 5 seconds he spent. He tells me he would need to come back several hours later because he "didn't have the parts." That was all I needed to hear...
I tell him no thanks, he gives me the invoice and tells me that unbelievably difficult 5 seconds assessment will cost $94. What?? Oh, HST is not included...ok, I foolishly take his word, and pay via e-transfer because it was the ONLY option available, because apparently his credit card reader isn't working. After reading complaints on BBB, and being overcharged myself, I'm pretty sure they insist on e-transfers so customers cannot get their money back when cheated. I paid the $94 "John" told me it was, rather than the $90.4 it actually was. It's only $3.60 difference, but on a matter of principle, and the fact that the entire experience was a waste of time, I requested that few dollars back. A week later, and after several phone calls and emails, Plumber on Demand still has not refunded that back. This tactic is consistent with what many have said on BBB.
To add insult to injury, in addition to being rude in general, "John" refused to take off his dirty outside shoes, and insisted on walking all over our carpeted basement. During a bloody pandemic, this was really irritating.
Regardless of how desperate you may feel, do NOT be fooled into using this company.
They were responsive, but very expensive. They were here 20 minutes and snaked our main storm drain in the basement and cleared some debris and seem to have cleared the blockage. They charged $665 for the work to snake the drain. So about $2000 an hour. I would get other quotes as the actual cost of this service is $200.
Don’t use this company, it’s totally a scam. Our hot water tank burst and they were the only ones that would come right out. He did what he could so we could get the water back on and told us we needed a new hot water tank there was nothing he could do. So he charged us 246 bucks for a shut off valve and when I called they said they accept credit cards but when he was done he said oh no has to be an e transfer and done before he left. Well the next day Reliance came out and fixed it no problem and no new hot water tank needed. They also said he put the wrong part on and he had to re due it and they only charged me 150. Will never call them again and wish you wouldn’t either.
NEVER ever use this company. It is a fraud business. I had a sewage backup emergency in the basement and found this company through Google search. They used the snake machine for like 10 minutes and told me problem is solved, and charged me $1000, and then tricked me into using their cleaning services. Less than three weeks later, the sewage backup came back again from the same place. I called again and they said it is not their problem - they said they did a good job as a result we had no problems for three weeks, and I have to pay for any additional services. And their manager is not available to pick up the phone until two days later. The guy who was nice on the phone earlier all of a sudden became rude and told me to leave whatever review I like and fxxk off. As I read more reviews about this company from homestar, BBB and here, I realized that they may intentionally do half-way jobs so you need to call them back again for more services. What an evil company, especially under current Covid-19 situation. Boycott Plumb On Demand. Never ever use it.
They were rude when they were at the house and said they would have to charge me again if they came back to the house. Unbelievable. I wouldn't recommend this company.
I just want to let people know how unprofessional and dishonest this company is.
My wife kids and I had sold our house and part of the conditions were to have a drain installed.
We were in a bind and contacted plumber on demand because they offer same day 24h service. I spoke with Martin Lazi on Friday and he assured me he would be at my door just after 8am the next day.
So it’s now Saturday at 11 am and Martin calls me to inform that someone will be by later in the afternoon and could not confirm a time.
Many hours later a technician by the name of BOBO called and said he would be by evening time.
He showed up, seemed professional. I explained to him what needed to be done.
(He didn’t know that I already had another plumber who couldn’t do the work immediately quote me on what needed to be done)
The technician was confused and had to call to the office to see if he could do this work.
He then came back in the house and told me he would do it and it would be $565 plus tax.
He didn’t measure anything or take note of the materials needed.
I was hesitant but needed the work done immediately.
The technician spent a hour downstairs and came up to tell me he would have to come back to do the work later so he can go out and get the materials needed at Home Depot.
A few hours went by and BOBO calls me to tell me that he can’t get the materials needed and will have to return tomorrow.
Long story short. He returned the next day did some work for a bit and then came upstairs to tell me that he doesn’t have proper fittings and will have to return the next day.
He returned Monday. Informed me that he misquoted me and the job will now cost just over $800. He didn’t know that I had priced out all the in stock materials AT HOME DEPOT! $150 That was quoted by the last plumber. So I questioned the labour and he assured me I would get a detailed receipt.
Again I needed the work done immediately so I reluctantly agreed. He asked me to send a e transfer to Martin Lazi for the deposit.
He went downstairs spent a hour and came back to tell me he doesn’t have the fittings needed and will have to come back tomorrow.
Angry as I was I agreed.
He came back Tuesday and did more work and then informed me he would have to come back the next day because he didn’t have a crimping tool.
I furiously agreed.
He came back Wednesday to complete the work. He still didn’t have the tool needed and kept complaining about it.
I told him just get the job done. My house is sold and I have to meet my conditions.
He finished the job. I inspected. It looked ok.
I paid $920.95 total. For something that was quoted to me at $565.
He then told me that his work order had got soaked and he could not give me a receipt.
I told him he can’t leave until he produces one.
He then filled one out. All crumpled and wet.
Didn’t have any labour times or material costs.
Only explained in point form on the work that was completed.
I just told him to leave at that point.
As soon as he left I heard water dripping on the floor and had to call him back.
He came back looked and basically left again. He told me he will get the tool and be back tomorrow.
The next day Martin called me to say that BOBO will not make it.
I explained that there was water leaking on my floor and he basically said I understand that sir I will try to get someone out by this eve.
No one called or came. So I called Martin and he had his phone off now.
So I called the main number and got Martin.
He was surprised I got ahold of him.
After a lengthy I understand that sir conversation he said we are all done for the night. Even though it’s a 24 hour service.
It’s Friday, I get it.
Very unprofessional.
The next day Martin called me to tell me that someone would be there by the evening. And BOBO showed up and finally fixed the leak.
I was in a bind and got taken for a ride by this company. I hope this information keeps people from getting ripped off by these guys again.
Called to fix a slow leak. They came 2x, did not fix the problem and charged me more than 600. A reputable company came after the mess they made and charged $50 to fix what was a minor problem. They are not trustworthy and their google reviews are highly suspicious given they don’t align with the very negative reviews on more trustworthy site (BBB, homestars, here). I suspect they are a fraudulent company.
Was quoted on phone 250, plumber came out and said 500. Since he did find more burst pipes he wanted more to fix them, he ended charging 650 and was there less then 1 hour to fix 3 exposed pipes. My credit card was billed over 900. After numerous calls to the company with no one returning my call And no one answering my emails I filed a dispute with the credit card charge. This company is very unprofessional. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I hired another well known company to fix remaining 3 pipes and they charged 260.
