As far as I can tell, this guy's behaviour is part contractor, part con-man.

Last autumn he required a 50% deposit on a whole-house generator. This was nearly $6000. (In my line of work, I made $38,000 last year, so this is a very large amount for my family.)

Consumer Protection Ontario, a government agency, specifically cites large deposits--anything over 10%--as an indication that you might be dealing with what they call "The Disappearing Contractor." Well, that nails it here.

The huge deposit should have been the first red flag. The second was this man’s general shifty behavior. I chose to trust a recommendation that I had from someone, rather than my gut. Big mistake.

After promising that our generator would be among the first to be installed in early spring, he then did not respond to repeated emails and phone calls (always going to voicemail) asking about when that install would happen. Went totally silent. No explanation whatsoever.

How many other people have given this guy $5000 or $6000 and then been ghosted? You will find other reviews online from other people who have experienced the same thing we have. Current BBB rating is D+.

Absolutely reprehensible conduct, particularly when he takes advantage of people who can least afford it. How he can sleep at night is a mystery. Totally immoral.

It looks like we will be required to sue to recover our money.
