We hired this local business to do a completed kitchen renovation in our 1200 sq ft bungalow. We were clear from the very first day we were on a strict budget. They estimated 80 hours, and they were paid for 86 hours. I had advised them from the first time we met that we would assist in the work as much as we could to cut cost. We personally helped with demolition, we tiled our own grout, painted the entire room, ( with the exception of ceiling) . We assisted with many hours of drywall sanding & applying compound, assembled our own kitchen cabinets, drilled installed our own handles & knobs on cabinets and we had another company install a counter top that they refused to install due to some issues. This also meant we were also responsible for installing our sink and dishwasher. Understand we paid 2 people for 86 hours ( which was for some demolition, transporting material to dump, moving electrical & plumbing, sub floor, installation of drywall, installing door, window and pod lighting, lay ceramic tile, and a customized shelf between walls. They charge by the hour at $50.00, which is not a good idea as a consumer, unless you have a set schedule, time sheet and contract detailing the expectations of daily work. We were always present for the majority of work ( which they stated that they did not like), If we were not happy with workmanship we also voiced concerns or questioned along the way. Instead of correcting, they seemed to feel this was a personal attack, which this was from being personal. They even went as far as double charging us for having to remove a tile and replace. I paid them twice for their error. When you are spending your hard earned money, I believe the consumer has the right to question work in their home. At the end of the 86 hours we had paid them a substantial amount of money based on our budget. They had also requested for payment half way prior to the job being complete. Against my better judgement I did, which really should never be done or asked of us. I have given this local business a 3 star, based on some of their finishing work was good, and they were reliable, however their professionalism is average. My ceiling was left in a mess. You can see seams bulging, and see where drywall was sanded and not cleaned. Drywall residue was painted over and poorly primed & painted. We also have a window we feel was not installed properly. I questioned this issue before the owners left. I have called them several times to return to look at it and they have ignored my calls. Very unprofessional when it comes standing behind their work. I have added a few pictures of ceiling which are a little difficult to see in these pictures and a picture of window, which is bowing in the center which is making difficult to open the window.and it appears to have been installed a little crooked tilting downward to the right. I understand some things may happen when you are on a timeline, however, to ignore and not address the problem in unacceptable. I have had to rehire a professional painter to fix my ceiling and will have to repay a window specialist to correctly install my window.
