Ray seemed professional and reliable from what our strata manager told us he came and did the work and then asked for payment almost immediately after. Upon inspection he had to get called back to fix a couple items. A couple weeks later the same items such as latches we're coming off our gates and it turns out he sawed right through one of our irrigation lines when doing repairs. Upon follow up he took no responsibility and offered no remedy to the items described.
Would not recommend him to anyone.
Response from Ray Evans Carpentry and Home Improvements
I was asked to make 3 new gates, repair some areas of an old fence and replace latches to existing gates. I commented that all the gates and fencing should be replaced, as they were in state of continuing deterioration, he agreed, but I was told there was a limited amount in the budget, but do what I could with the bits of the fence that I had been instructed to repair. After completion we both inspected the work and Aubin thanked me. I issued an invoice, which I do not feel was unacceptable request especially as I had paid for materials out of my own pocket and had yet to receive any payment. Payment was a little delayed as he subsequently asked me to apportion some of the cost, to another party who was held responsible for some of the damaged to the fence, to which I made repairs.
I was asked to come back to re-secure the latches, which had been damaged due to the force of people smashing the gates open, the result of which can be seen in the picture, instead of using the latches, in the correct manner to which they had been designed. I replaced the manufactures screws with longer ones, which I purchased out of my own pocket, to add strength and recommended a string be tied to the latch over the other side of the gate to lift the latch to encourage people to use it in the correct manner, especially as over time this continued force will damage the whole gate, including hinges. This I did out of goodwill at no extra cost.
With regard to the irrigation, I am deeply offended that, two months later, I have been accused of cutting through it. Had I done so I would of repaired it there and then, which is not a difficult job. On hindsight it could easily of been caused by a weed whacker which has happened to my irrigation in my own garden.
I have always had a good relationship based on mutual respect and trust with all my clients, whom have been customers for many years, which was verified by the strata manager. However I now realize there are just come customers that you cannot please. Despite everything, I wish Aubin all the best for the future.
