I engaged the services of Shaffer Enterprises to rehabilitate/renovate the cottage I recently purchased. As a first time cottage owner, Mike took the time to outline what repairs would be necessary and their ultimate order of importance. The first priority was to re-level the cottage. It turned out to be a challenge because the cottage had been built in stages and the joists went in every direction. Undaunted, Mike and his crew persevered and accomplished the daunting task. The next tasks to be undertaken were an update of the tired and mouse infested bathroom and an upgrade to the electrical system. Again, Mike and his crew did a great job. Last but not least, the cottage needed a new water pump and septic system. Mike helped with that as well.
When I encountered any unknown/unanticipated issues, Mike was only "a phone call away" to answer this new cottage owner's questions.

Michael Shafer has performed a various array of construction and maintenance services for me over the past four years.
Bathroom – I have a relatively small bathroom in my home and Mike installed a bath surround, as well as ceramic tiling on the remaining walls in the bathroom, and replaced the toilet with a high-boy. Nice! He updated both sets of bathroom faucets and lighting fixtures. To give me some cabinet space without using up valuable floor space, he inserted a two-door linen tower into the wall space where a Selkirk chimney once was. I am delighted that I can now store my towels and toiletries in the bathroom, and not in a closet down the hallway.
Kitchen – Mike succeeded in bringing my 1960’s kitchen up to date by changing the placement of the refrigerator and stove, and then re-plumbed two sinks. Mike designed and built a kitchen island that has received many rave reviews from my friends and family.
Office - Mike expanded my office space (or second bedroom) by using the space provided by the kitchen reorganization (on the other side of the wall).
Attic – A rampway was built up to the attic entrance over an existing exceptionally high basement stairwell, thus allowing a new closet in my office/second bedroom. There was no previous usable entrance to the attic.
I would hire him again in the heartbeat.

We are small company with much experience and employ help as needed as this age construction being very seasonal. Most experiences gained from renovation type work, more so than new construction, so can adapt to any problem that arises. Reno's usually require more thinking and imagination to construct your dream ideas , also a engineered drawing helps. We can keep work moving in the fact we can attend to plumbing and electrical, carpentry without waiting for other trades, etc.
Our personal attention with a owner makes for less headaches and solves problematic communication with many others onsite.
