Mike and his crew were very professional. Their work was done in a timely matter and the finished job was amazing. The quality of work was outstanding and everything was done with fine detail. Mike was always available when needed to answer questions. The basement needed to be done within a specific time limit and Mike and his crew was able to complete the job without effecting the quality of work. Mike was also there to offer some references when other jobs were required. The basement looks fantastic and we would definitely recommend and/or use Mike again.

Generally a good experience in that the finished product is exactly what we wanted, at a cost we were comfortable with, and was delivered within acceptable time.

One way communication could have been improved right at the outset would be line-item prices for each item in the quote. That would help the customer to make decisions about inclusions/exclusions during planning to budget accurately, and allow the impact of any extras or deletions during the project to be clearly understood before final billing..

Re-work was required in a few instances due to miscommunication. Examples included one wall that was initially painted the wrong colour and stairs that needed to be stained a second colour as well.

Schedule of work subject to last-minute changes but float built into schedule allowed over-all delivery within agreed timelines.

Owner, subcontract trades, and post-reno cleaners were all very pleasant to deal with.

Mike was a pleasure to deal with. Normally responded in 24 hours or less. William was the fellow that actually did the painting. 2 coats in the master plus trim. Also did the trim in the bathroom, and a portion of the stucco ceiling. He did a nice, neat job. I'm happy I found Sonoma and wouldn't hesitate to use them again should the need arise.

Recently I had the pleasure of having a kitchen installed by Mike and his crew. I couldn't have been more pleased with the results and the thought and care that they put into it. They knew exactly what I wanted and needed and delivered on all accounts. Mike and Eric are great guys, polite, helpful, knowledgeable and pleasant. Mike/Aldo and their crew are phenomenal. After having a bad experience in the past dealing with other general contractors I can say these guys actually take pride in their work and don't cut corners. They do what they say and are honest every step of the way. I worked with them over a period of 8 months and the two basement income suites came out perfect. The job required a new concrete slab, in floor radiant heating, two bathrooms, two laundry rooms, four bedrooms, two kitchens ect. Use of space and finished quality is exactly what I was looking for. I have already referred others to Sonoma Contracting.

Working with Mike Flammia and his team was a real pleasure. We hired Sonoma Contracting in the summer to finish our basement and have it ready in time for Christmas. The different crews worked evenings and weekends to make sure that they met our deadline. The crews that Mike brought in were true craftsmen in their trades. Mike and his team were fantastic to work with - true craftsmen and they really listened to what I wanted and offered great ideas. I had my main floor redone and then finished my unfinished basement. Every crew member was easy to work and communicate with and they were all top notch. They said it would take 4 months and it did - I was the reason for any delay and they were nice to work around me. There were no surprise costs and Mike was upfront with me all along the way. He was also really great at working with the city inspector to make sure everything passed inspection. I could not be more happy with the finished product and I tend to be quite picky about that sort of thing. Make sure you have some extra funds for things that you may change your mind about along the way - I realized that I wanted certain finishes so I opted to upgrade and it was worth it.

Mike Flammia and Greg were excellent! Complete professionals! We were impressed with Mike's detailed estimate and his communication through out the job. He told us with complete honesty of what we needed and didn't need. Their workmanship and attention to detail was awesome and they treated our project as if it was their own. They were clean, timely and friendly. Any issues were looked after immediately with complete professionalism. Very happy with the outcome of the project. The crew was professional and cleaned up after themselves. They installed a travertine backsplash in my kitchen and would hire them for additional projects.

After hearing so many horror stories regarding contractors and renovations in general, I was really apprehensive about going forward with my basement project. I'm happy to share that I lucked out in my choice of contractors and had a great experience with Sonoma.

Mike and Aldo did a wonderful job and I'm loving my basement! Not only are they reliable and fun to work with, they would offer suggestions on improving existing plans and these went a long way in enhancing the functionality of the living space. I subcontracted Sonoma to install hardwood flooring as well remove, modify and reinstall stair railings and pickets. It was a tedious undertaking, but was done quickly and for good value. The customer was pleased, which made me look great as the GC on the project.

We hired Mike Flammia and his team to finish our basement, as he had finished my parents' basement several years prior.

We were very pleased with Mike and his team's personal attention and suggestions to deal with specific issues (such as low ceiling combined with non-ideal HVAC layout in our case), and flexibility on certain decisions as the project progressed. The work moved along at a quick and dedicated pace. Mike and his team were also responsive in addressing our questions and concerns. I would not hesitate to recommend Sonoma Contracting to others.

We had employed Sonoma a couple of years ago to finish our basement and were so happy with the whole experience that we decided to use Sonoma again to build a fence along our property line and repave part of our driveway. We needed to use someone we could trust because it was not a straightforward job: part of the fence was along the concrete pad where our (now demolished) garage used to stand, so the fence posts could not be buried in the ground, but needed to be attached to the pad. Sonoma’s owner, Mike Flammia, came out and measured and he and I talked about what we wanted the fence to look like. He also measured the area of asphalt that needed to be excavated and replaced. A few days later, we got a quote that was about what we expected to pay, and booked in the work. Everything went smoothly: Chris and his team carried out the driveway repaving quickly and without any problems and then the wood was delivered, the fence post holes dug, and Aldo and Tony built the fence over the course of a couple of days. As with the basement, we are very happy with the whole interaction and the finished product is even better than we had hoped and Sonoma had no problems with our little idiosyncrasy - leaving the fence posts much higher than is usual.

Mike, Aldo and his crew were amazing!! We needed to have a fully finished water damaged basement gutted from top to bottom so our architect can draw up plans for an underpin project. Mike showed up a few days ahead of schedule with an amazing crew and had the job done in 8 hours flat! I couldn't believe it!! He left the place spotless. He is also very easy to talk to and very accommodating.

I would high recommend Mike. I hope to work with him in the near future to do our basement reno.

Working with Mike has made the move-in process for our home really easy. We wanted our hardwood floors put in before we moved in any furniture, and his services were prompt and professional. We got it done within the week of calling! Very good service and the floors look gorgeous. The project was a complete kitchen reno in Pickering. Trouble is, we live 2000 miles away. Fortunately, we hired Mike Flammia and Sonoma Contracting for the job. Even from afar, he was a breeze with whom to communicate. When we landed in Pickering, we threw some last-minute changes at him. He overcame the challenges easily. And his team of trades people were every bit as professional and cooperative as Mike was. He was very reliable; always on time. There was never any resistance or pressure from him, including the financial part of the deal. Mike came recommended from a close friend --a lawyer who is very thorough in checking out contractors. She was happy with the job that Mike did and so were we. We would hire him again in a flash and we'd highly recommend him. We are very satisfied. This was my first major renovation, and I interviewed four contractors. Mike stood out immediately because of the advice he gave me (that the others did not).

Each trades person (Aldo, Tony, Paul, Marco, Alex) that Mike works with is an expert in their field, and they were all professional and approachable.

Mike was great at answering my multiple questions in a timely manner (while being very patient). I also added some items to the project which he kindly accommodated, always letting me know if there was an additional charge.

Mike Flammia at Sonoma Contracting was great to work with. Earlier this year, when I was on maternity leave, my husband and I chose to finish our basement and add a window to our main floor kitchen. This was a major basement renovation as we wanted to have a kitchenette and a bathroom installed and we wanted to open up the wall and staircase to the basement. We got several quotes from contractors in the area (some were higher and some were lower), but we chose Sonoma Contracting because Mike seemed really down to earth and I could see myself working with him throughout the project (other contractors I had met seemed to be under qualified/overly confident or overly pricey by adding a design team, surveyors etc.). Mike was really patient with me as I decided on the basement layout and the finishes (with my husband’s input of course), and he provided a lot of great advice and expertise along the way. Mike’s team was also very professional. Aldo, who I would consider the foreman on the project, was always available and if I ever had a concern, Aldo was at my house the same day.

Throughout the renovation, I was home the majority of the time with my three young children (all under 4 at the time). The team was always courteous, friendly and we never felt uncomfortable.

We were very happy with the underpinning work on our basement done by True North Underpinning so when True North suggested that we use Sonoma for the finishing work, we got in touch with Mike Flammia from Sonoma to give us an estimate. The quote that Mike gave was detailed, thorough and fair, so we decided to use Sonoma. Communications with Mike were excellent from the day we first contacted him right through the day the job was done. He was quick to answer any questions and when we made minor changes to our plans or had requests for work that was out of the ordinary, he never made us feel we were being awkward and, in fact, seemed to rise to the challenge. All his employees and subcontractors were of the highest quality and a pleasure to have around. Unlike a previous contractor we had used for our kitchen, who had a jack-of-all trades (and master of none) doing the work, Sonoma used specialist carpenters, electricians, drywallers, painters, plumbers, tilers, a glass and mirror guy, a stairs guy, and, overseeing everything Aldo, the foreman. All discussions about additional costs due to changes in our plans took place up front and there were no surprises when the bills came in. The finished basement far exceeds our expectations. When it is time to renovate upstairs, we will be sure to call in Sonoma.

This is the second time we have had Sonoma come in to do work in our house. This time, it was a basement and laundry room renovation. As usual they did outstanding work and I am again amazed at the level of craftsmanship. These guys really know what they are doing. Mike scheduled the various trades to come in seamlessly thus optimizing the overall length of time for everything to get done. We are very pleased with our new basement and laundry room.

We hired Sonoma Contracting to do a complete renovation of our unfinished basement. Mike and Aldo were extremely helpful in planning and making efficient use of the available space. The work started promptly and steadily progressed until completion. All the trades associated with this company were highly skilled and very professional. They were very respectful of our home and did not intrude on our day to day living during this project. The finished basement is perfect. It far exceeded our expectations. Of the four quotes we received Somoma's was in the middle, but offered a lot more. They included moving the hot water heater, laundry tub, duct work, water pipes, etc. Things that the other companies charged extra for. If you are looking for a General Contractor, look no further than Somaoma.

The quality of our end result was very high and we would recommend Sonoma to our friends and family. The scope of the project was to bench/lower the entire basement, finish half of it including a new set of oak stairs, and install a bathroom. Our design was unconventional, but they were able to deliver on all the points we required. We were working with a pretty tight budget, but they offered us the best value among other contractors and were able to amend details to suit as well. They developed an extremely fair payment schedule and we always felt comfortable discussing monetary details with them. Thank you Mike and Aldo!

Mike and Aldo and their teams of subcontractor tradesmen did a very good job building my basement. From a gutted condition they did in-floor radiant heating, concrete slab, framing, insulation, electrical, plumbing, drywall, custom shower, floor tile, trim, doors and paint. I was consulted on an as needed basis. All tradesmen were friendly, respectful and trustworthy. Issues were dealt with promptly. Prices were competitive. I would recommend Sonoma without reservation.

We hired Mike, Aldo and their crews to rebuild our basement bathroom and replace a section of the concrete floor. The renovation included a high-efficiency furnace, electrical wiring upgrading and foam insulation behind new drywall on some exterior walls.

We are pleased indeed with the quality of the work and with Mik's efforts to keep us posted about what was taking place at each stage of the project. All of the crews were professional and took care to keep the debris under control and remove it as soon as possible.

We were especially pleased with the fellow Mike referred us to for the furnace replacement. He gave us invaluable advice on how to upgrade our cold-air return system should we eventually decide to do so.

We appreciated the detailed estimate. It showed the budget for certain items such as a vanity and laundry tub. We decided to exceed the budget in some cases. By having the estimate, we knew instantly what the additional cost would be.

Our project got off to a slow start because we had left our building permit application until the last minute. Mike was patient and understanding, and went ahead with the various stages of building only after the permit was in hand

This was our first time working with a professional contractor on a job of any magnitude. So, what did we learn? We learned the importance of thinking through the design details of the space as thoroughly as you can. While a contractor will help you (Mike certainly did), you cannot expect the builder to read your mind. We also learned the importance of maintaining effective communication with on-site workers--especially supervisors such as Aldo--without breathing down people's necks. We would hire Sonoma again.

Sonoma Contracting recently removed a load bearing wall separating our kitchen and family room and updated various parts of our kitchen. From start to finish, Mike and his entire team were professional, courteous and friendly.

Mike prepared a detailed quote at the onset of the project which ensured there were no surprises once work began. He was easy to work with and was very flexible to accommodate any changes to the original project that I requested. The project was completed on-time and within budget.

Sonoma did our whole basement last year. It is spectacular!

When we needed someone to redo our small 5x7 bathroom, there was no hesitation....Mike Flamia and Sonoma are so busy but they managed to squeeze our renovation in. Mike thought our Reno was cursed as it was so small but the problems so big upon discovery following the gutting. We had adjust some things, exchange recessed cabinets, etc. and Mike found creative solutions to make it all work! Beautiful! Thanks, Sonoma...

We're so happy we chose Sonoma for our renovation. We did a renovation of our main and 2nd floors, and while it was mostly cosmetic, it was a fairly big job. Mike was a pleasure to work with, and has a great mix of being a very down to earth guy, but is also very attentive to detail. His main crew (Aldo and Trim-Master Tony) were fantastic, and the other trades were great as well. The full job went over schedule by a couple weeks, but the estimate was bang on!
