BEWARE DEALING WITH WOODSTOCK HOME HARDWARE. They are very unreliable. Here’s our experience. Once COVID restrictions eased and people were being urged to get the economy going, we approached Woodstock Home Hardware about doing some work for us. We always try to give work to local people when possible. On August 10th we contracted with them to replace some floors and do some other construction work. We gave them a deposit of $2,500.00 . The work was scheduled to begin on October 13th. About ten days before the start date, the installer called to say that they were a bit behind and would now be starting on October 20th. We didn’t complain about the delay even though we were anxious to get the job done. Six days before the revised start date, the installer called again and stated that he was postponing the job indefinitely because of COVID. Mu husband went to the store and tried to get further information about why the job wasn’t going to proceed as planned but the installer was very dismissive. The next day my husband returned to the store and asked to speak with the owner, John Lamprea to try to get a better explanation for why the job was being postponed at such a late date. He was in a meeting so over the next several days, my husband emailed and called the owner numerous times but didn’t get a response. We decided to email the CEO of Home Hardware. Kevin Macnab to make him aware of how the franchise was being operated. He had a colleague call us back the very same day but he only reiterated what the installer had told us, which was that he didn’t want to do the job and that was that. The installer seemed to be running the place. Head Office offered no suggestions, such as referring us to a different Home Hardware store so we immediately asked for our deposit back and have scrambled around to find someone else to do the job at the 11 th hour. We are not trying to downplay COVID however, we were in the middle of the pandemic in August when they agreed to do the job and took our money and we were still in the middle of the pandemic when they postponed the job by a week rather than cancel it outright. The restrictions set out by the Province hadn’t changed in that timeframe. I think it’s more likely that they decided this was a small job and they could make more money doing something else. So be very careful about hiring these guys. They kept our money for months then left us in the lurch.
