Just wanted to say, thank you very much Nino for a job well done. Your guys were fantastic and the driveway looks amazing. From the very beginning, whenever we called or had questions to ask, you were nothing but kind, polite and very professional. We also appreciated the time you took to listen and support us during this process. Gaetano (super great guy) and his crew are top notch and it shows in the work they do, you could see that they really care about the job and this makes a huge difference. It’s really hard today to find a company that really cares about their customers and goes out of their way to please them. All I can say is, that this is one of the best companies out there for interlock and paving. I would highly recommend Wycliffe to anyone who wants a job done the right way and professionally.
Nino came by to look at the work to be done. He gave us a few options we had not thought of. We liked his approach and his professionalism. After a few discussions and scheduling confirmation, we agreed on a price that was comparable with some of the other estimates we had received but got a better vibe from Nino. The team showed up on time, made sure they understood what we expected and got it done. We did not have to argue over the ratio of coloured or larger stones, or over other small details. Before leaving, they cleaned up the street and picked up any extra material and garbage around the driveway. Very professional. We are very satisfied of the work they did. The street appeal of our house has significantly improved.
I hired Wycliffe paving to put a concrete curb 14' long x 7"wide under a metal fence on my property. The work was completed OCT 25, 2017 paid in full with a signed payment receipt from them.
All of the surface concrete is breaking off the curb...it looks terrible and there are concrete pieces everywhere. I called Nino on April 27, 2018 ...talked to him explaining the situation and he said he would get back to me the Trusted Pros website on May 4 but have still received no communication from Wycliffe. Luca who works with Nino was the person who did the work on the curb.
With regards to your response to my complaint about the work on Maitland st curb under fence....
Luca did not at any time say that he could not guarantee the curb or any of the work on the job. the actual body of the curb is okay ...there are no breaks or cracks in it..so the substrate in this scenario is not the concern........He poured the new curb and then skim coated over it as it was uneven. its the skim coat that he applied...it has all cracked off leaving the uneven curb exposed underneath. The former contractor did not touch that area..he did not install the curb or anything in that area. ...he only put the fence in above it before Luca poured the curb.
I also want to add the when the city did some work on our neighbors property...they dug up the paving stones at the end of our driveway. they reset them badly and the area sunk
down. This was the initial reason that we called Wycliffe. Nino said the job was too small for them to just do the just the end of the driveway... so we agreed that they would take the whole driveway out and redo it. it was done at the same time as the curb in Oct 17. as of today...the driveway pavers are sinking again in the area that they were contracted to fix
initially. the substrate was not properly done (maybe not compacted sufficiently)....otherwise I don't think the pavers would sink again. so we are basically back where we were before we called them.
Luca and his helpers worked 30 hours at my property total for a cost of $7500... 12 of those hours were for his helpers...who would have been paid much less.... that works out to around $250 per hour each for the three guys for the job. There was a small expense for a couple of bags of concrete and sand. Nino did not appear at the job site other than at the first pricing visit.
if Wycliffe does not return to fix this problem we will have to hire another company to fix it. I have a signed contract outlining all the work that was done and the payments that they received for the work. Paid in full.
please note the picture attached of the curb....the curb is solid no cracks or damage...but the workmanship is very bad as can be seen in the picture. The skim coat has mostly cracked off in 6 months. it was not adhered properly
May 31/2018 I am uploading 2 more pictures...one that shows the curb that Wycliffe installed on a 20 ton armour stone wall that has been in place for 10 years. It has never shifted or moved in that time. Luca poured the curb as per our signed contract. it didn't look smooth or even but he said that he would put a skim coat on it....He did that and as you can see in the pictures the skim coat has completely broken off in 6 months. it looks terrible.
the second picture is of the driveway that I needed the front paving stones reset because of damage the city did in repairing a gas pipe that runs under the driveway. the pavers dipped down on the right side and to a lesser degree on the left side. As you can see there is a dip on both sides of the driveway. When Luca finished the job I had mentioned that there still was a dip in the pavers....(the sole reason we hired Wycliffe was to get rid of that dip and to even out the stones) He redid the stones again.. blaming it on his assistants for not making it level. 6 months later...the area is dipping again...I don't think that they compacted the sand substrate sufficiently to keep it level. I am worried what it will look like in a year or two. In the recent rainstorms water was accumulating in the area again. I feel that Wycliffe should reset the pavers in such a way that the end of the driveway is level...since that is why we hired them to begin with. I paid them handsomely for a pretty simple job.
in addition to this...on the last day the job was being finished...there were about 30 paving stones that no longer fit in the driveway. When they were reinstalling the stones in the driveway...I mentioned that they were not placing them close enough together and that I thought that they would not get all the stones back in the driveway that were originally there. They didn't seem to take my concern seriously. when they finished putting all the stones back...there were close to 30 stones left. 12 of those stones came from an adjacent area that they were also working in. I asked Luca to put them back...first because there were larger spaces between the stones than had previously been there...and the stones are very expensive and we had nowhere to store them. I wanted them back in the driveway to tighten up the pavers to stop weeds from growing.
Luca agreed to do it but said it would have to be on the next day. I said fine...I owed them $3500 of the $7500 that the job cost. Luca asked for $3000 then and said that he would get the remaining $500 the next day when the job was done. I said that I would give them $2000 with the remaining $1500 the next day when the job was done. I figured that they would come back for $1500...i didn't think they'd come back for $500. Luca said that Nino wanted the payment that night. I didn't want to give $3000 for fear that they would not return to finish the job. Luca called Nino and handed me the phone. Nino was very unpleasant...demanding the money or he would rip out the job...it was very threatening. I refused to speak with him any further and gave the phone back to Luca and went into my house. I figured they would be back the next day...finish the job and then I would pay them the total outstanding. Luca came the next day and reluctantly put the remaining 20 stones back into the driveway and tried to level the end of the driveway out. He then put sand in-between the stones. He left me a bag of sand saying that it would settle with the next rainstorm and I should fill in the cracks that would appear. When it rained the next time...there were very many cracks that appeared. I am very busy and have not had time to do what I consider to be part of their job to finish the project. I am very unsatisfied with their work...and more importantly I am disturbed and upset that a contractor would speak to me in that fashion...when I was only asking to have my job done properly...that I paid a lot of money for.
When Luca was done I paid them the remainder of the money $3500. He signed a document saying that he received payment in full for the job. I have signed documents for all the payments that were made them.
We were hired to relevel you interlock driveway and we completed it in a profesional manor.
We were asked our opinion on your previous contractor which had worked on your underpining and retaining system.
We advised you that the underpining was done poorly.
You then hired us to correct it which we completed in a proffesional manor.
The curb in question which you are complaining about is unfortunately not a warranted job.
Its sitting on armour stone which does not allow our curb to have a proper foundation.
You asked us to do our best to make it aesthetically pleasing.
You were advised that your previous contractor left it in a state were it is very difficult to correct.
You understood at the time.
We advised that rain water will get under it and cause problems.
You were upset with your previous contractor and advised us you fired him.
Respectfully we can not warrant our corrective work which undertakes a previous negligent contractor.
